I don't disagree Dave, nobody can deny that Del,made an impression, but mostly because of what could have been? I remember Billy Kenny too! I genuinely hope the lad makes it, he seems a nice guy and that level of talent going to waste would be a crying shame. It just strikes me that he probably wont make it because he can't find that 'something' that allows him to,produce on a consistent basis, not every game, but most games. I would be delighted if I am proven wrong, and it is in his favour that I usually am,...and yet Dumcan McKenzie will be one of only a handful of players you'll remember from that era and the rest - the Trevor Ross's, Bruce Rioch's, Peter Eastoe''s - will scarcely be thought of at all, le alone fondly.
The McKenzies and Dave Thomas' will always be remembered. Same goes for Deulofeu.

I think another reason he's been erratic is that Barca, it seems to me, have stuck their oar in on his career development. He was settled with us and then taken back and loaned out elsewhere, and I can imagine them also having a say in the recent Milan switch given the clauses they inserted on sell ons.I don't disagree Dave, nobody can deny that Del,made an impression, but mostly because of what could have been? As a general point, players like Deulofeu can take a bit of time to find consistency. And I also don't think he was given enough time to show what he can do in behind a forward in a #10 role, which could be where his future lies.
It's the zeitgeist. They're smitten with the new creed of perspiration over inspiration. Fast and athletic wide men who are lauded for getting back behind the ball rather than what they can do with it at their feet.Totally agree. Ronaldo took time to find his feet and how to become more productive. Most of our fans want to play hard workers instead of give the time to a technical player to improve his productivity.
Funny thing is Del was getting assists despite being inconsistent in his general play. Now we're just playing players who don't get assists and are just as inconsistent. (but they work hard, so that's ok???) lol
I grew up with Dave Thomas as my hero, right down to always playing with my socks rolled down. Geri's flouncing about hasn't impressed me one bit. His spoilt brat huffing and puffing hasn't impressed his last half dozen or so coaches either. Go figure...It's the zeitgeist. They're smitten with the new creed of perspiration over inspiration. Dave. Over the last couple of seasons Deulofeu was my favourite player and I still think letting him go may be a mistake.I think another reason he's been erratic is that Barca, it seems to me, have stuck their oar in on his career development. Dave Thomas was an established success when he arrived at Everton. An England international in his late 20s. Sorry Dave, one of the finest wide men ever to grace the blue shirt never got back behind the ball in his life, the difference being that speedy was consistent with his brilliance!
