Gerard Deulofeu

He is an incredible talent, and it deserves an extended run in the first team where he is allowed to make mistakes.

Otherwise he will just be brought on for the odd twenty minutes here and there, probably for someone whose lack of skill or effort gets tolerated rather more by the manager, and it will all be wasted.

That Mirallas is more likely to start games than him baffles me; that Cleverley is as well is something incomprehensible.

I agree he is worth some starts but his main issue for me is still his fitness. He always looks done after about 30 mins and if the match goes to plan that's too early to start having to make changes to line up/formation.

Paper lungs bags in a kids knock-about and already there's claims he's miles too good for the bench. He can't run 5 yards without puffing like a kid on a Cohiba for heavens sake.

He needs some high intensity training to get his stamina up before he can be trusted to start games.

He was an attacker.

That is where he was meant to be brilliant.

It was a different footballing era when the ability to defend was not a pre-requisite for a skilful forward.
I couldn't disagree more , Tricky worked hard when not in possession. I don't get this idea that in years gone by everybody apart from defenders stood round idly while the other side had the ball, everybody worked hard to regain the ball (ideally). That's what I witnessed in the sixties when I started watching and it's no different today . When Sheedy put a tackle in ,
it was always a source of wry comment. If we had not developed into a truly great side of which he was an integral part , I suspect we would have seen far less of him ,sadly because he was ,as you say, brilliant in attack.
We currently not a good enough side to accommodate Deulofeu as a starter, unless he can work harder out of possession.

Like Barkley, he has gone backwards thanks to el coco.

.....or RK is finding these players out. I'm a big fan of Deulofeu but RK clearly wants more from his players. The biggest disappointment for me is that he's failed to take the chances that come his way earlier this season. It's simple, Barkley and Deulofeu need to consistently and positively impact football matches, it really is up to them.

Never played proper footy in the park on a Sunday morning with his mates after doing a big paper round, jumpers for goalposts and all that.

He has, but for once I don't think we can blame Martinez. Think he needs to take responsibility himself
Whilst I'll always question the wherewithal of any middle aged man who finds inspiration in Jason Derulo, I agree that we cannot forever be blaming Bobby Brownshoes for the overwhelming mediocrity of our current squad...Del-boy included.

In all seriousness Deulofeu is a frustrating figure. Sometimes he looks to be at premier level, but most of the time he is woeful. If RK is looking for better that's good, it's whether or not we can attract better is the question.
