Wouldn't mind seeing a proper 4123. McCarthy playing DM by himself with Barkley and Cleverley ahead of him to make a three. Then Mirallasand Deulofeu out wide with Lukaku up top. The problem with 4231 is if your deep two aren't good at passing, check, and your three behind the striker aren't very creative, check, it just doesn't work well.

I think Mirallas is going and probably McGeady too but Pienaar will have another season. We use the money from those two for a left winger and a winger on loan as cover with Pienaar

New LW....Lukaku....Deulofeu.

Central midfield would look like this

DM -- McCarthy / Besic
CM -- Barkley / Cleverley
AM -- New playmaker / Osman

So its doable.

Bobby has already said he wants Besic in the holding role and McCarthy to push forward more. With the addition of Cleverley, that's your midfield 1-2 in a 4123, quite where that leave Ross is anyone's guess.

a 4-3-3 would be my choice too but I wouldn't mind seeing Deulofeu used as a no10 in preseason in a 4-2-3-1. From him tapes when he passes they're normally the kind you would want a no10 to make.

Plenty of width and pace and forward thinking midfielders with an eye for goal. This system will work so well if Barkley and Cleverley play anywhere near their potential, and Ross learns how to put a shift in

It looks exciting, but there is no one there who can actually dictate play the way, for example, Cazorla does.

And Coleman and Baines are going to be horribly exposed behind Deulofeu and Mirallas, giving them little opportunity to go forward.

So, from our existing resources, we would certainly need to play one of Cleverley, Gibson, Osman and Pienaar, and perhaps we should play two of them.

I agree with you. And someone else also had a good point about Howard probably starting.

On paper it looks good, but i'd prefer Lennon to be one of the wingers as he will provide cover and as I said, i'm a bit concerned about central midfield. Agree completely about Cazorla. For a club like us (as in not an Arsenal), Gibson would be fine for that role if he wasn't injured all the time. We really do need to find a player that can carve open defences and dictate the play but it would cost a fair bit.

is a possibility if we get offered silly money. Ross as good as he is struggles to show it regularly enough. Bobby might cash in if he sees no progressing forwards from him. He could fund the next squad overhaul.
