Have to apologise for the knobhead stuff- sometimes you just rise to it.

If he's been mentally unwell it's perhaps not surprising he's been a plum in the past is it?

Spot on.

I've experienced mental illness and when it was at its worst I just wasn't myself at all. I was horrendous to be around.

In my case I became addicted to alcohol but that happened as a result of my depression. I barely drank before I got ill but I used the booze as a crutch. Bad idea.

I do wonder how much emphasis the club put on the mental side of the game with youngsters? Over the years we seem to have so many lads who were very highly regarded but who have either gone off the rails (Baxter, Kissock) or been complete plums (Jeffers, Barkley).

When you're 16-17, and you're taking in £1,500-2,000 a week, it's gonna do ridiculous things to you.

If i was getting that now, i'd probably be a bit tool tbh, you lost sight of a few things when you're younger and when you're 16-17 and have the weight of the world on you, move from your home to a new area and have all this money, I expect it will mess you up. I expect he had a lot of "hangers on", giving him some unhelpful advice.

Mental health is such a big thing, which seemingly many do not understand. Okay, he's acted a bit silly, but full credit for admitting it. That's the first step.

...other youngsters are able to manage that situation but upbringing and the right support structure is important.

True...but all people are different...the reason theres 'more mental illness' is not that there is any more than there used to be, its just that more is diagnosed. The problem is the quality of help is sketchy and the more diagnosis, the more the help system gets overloaded. I think Everton, probably because of BKs natural 'show biz' sensitivity and sentimentality have always been at the forefront of clubs that help wayward/mentally disturbed players(Baxter,Lennon etc).

Inappropriate Language
By all accounts whilst he was here he was an utter gobsh!te.

He also reads this forum, so hello George!

Haha, no. My real name is Wayne....

Come on lads... if it was ever merited it's for this lad.

Weird that because my real name is Danny.

Never understood why people froth at the mouth about George Green not being a massive fan of Unsworth.

No member of our staff is immune from criticism, I’m sure there was some other ex Everton players involved in a recent twitter thread about Unsworth too.

I would be interested in what Unsworth did to make ‘the next Gazza’ and someone that we invested a lot of time and money into, dislike him so much, and if we had someone else looking after that group of players in that age range , if any more of them would have made it
