Gana Gueye and Morgan Schneiderlin

Teams often have a player who appears less skillful than other players, but who still has a great influence on the team; the team usually plays better when he is in it than when not.

Perhaps the most notable example was John McGovern, whom Brian Clough took with him wherever he went.

Another example would be Mark Atkins who won a Premier League title at Blackburn Rovers. He was replaced by the much more celebrated David Batty, but the team never operated as smoothly again.

Claude Makelele - like Nobby Stiles - was not known for his skill on the ball. But Makelele did gain wide recognition for the contribution that he made to Chelsea's play. Makelele has followed Paul Clement to Swansea.

Makalele is one of the best players of all time IMO. Loved his work

Was a core part of both Real Madrid and Chelsea in periods where they were hugely successful

Previous seasons we've been awful without the ball, winning it back, 50/50s but with these two and Davies it's a totally different story.
Davies is tenacious and fiery, just what you would want from a young man coming into the 1st team. Gana has that limitless energy and good technique. Schneiderlin is the complete holding midfielder, read the game, timing the tackle, shielding the ball and precise passing.
It's a great midfield and one that we have sorted for the next few seasons in my opinion.

after watching the RS and knowing their central midfield choices of henderson, wijnaldum, can and i dunno, lallana? cost about £85m in transfer fees alone, never mind the atsronomical wages.

Yet we have schneiderlin, gueye, davies and barkley as our equivilent for a 3rd of the price, it just goes to show how good we've done in the last few years. Especially with mccarthy, barry and besic as backup, all very very capable players.

This will only he borne out if we turn up at Anfield and make a game of it. As average as Henderson Can and Wijnaldum are, they have ran over us in previous seasons and made it look like men v boys. We will know whether or not this midfield is the real deal of not the day it is coming out on top against Liverpool. When it can compete physically for 90 minutes against a team who raise their game ridiculously when we come to town.

The great Everton midfields of the past stamped their authority over far better Liverpool midfields than this one. It's about mentality, about wanting to come out on top in personal duals. We haven't had a midfield capable of that for ages. Cahill was probably the only midfielder that could raise his level against them and they actually feared. Arteta Pienaar Osman Gibson Neville Fellaini Barry McCarthy Barkley Cleverley have all just disappeared in complete fear of them.
