Ratcliffe and Southall were missing too. Wales were probably playing at that time it was filmed.

They were. Patrick Macnee is the guest sitting next to Wogan when they run out. This live episode aired on April 29th, 1985.

Southall, Rats and Psycho Pat were away on international duty, as Wales played Spain the following night in a World Cup Qualifier (and Wales won 3-0, which illustrates how good Wales were at the time).

Van Den Hauwe qualified for Wales. completely forgot that. did he have a choice between them and Belgium?

Between Wales, Belgium and England mate. Choice of all three. He chose Wales despite having no connection to there because Ratcliffe & Southall played for them and he liked Mike England (the irony). Just read his autobiography. He was nuts but he was ours. Ace left back and centre half.

was such a fan of John Bailey but I learnt to love him

Aye defo, it was a bit cruel on John who was a fine left back but Kendall had that ruthless streak. Suppose that was one of the reasons he was so successful then mate.

Not sure how many people remember a brilliant clearance off the line by him early on in Watford cup final. Watford started very well and John Barnes had mazy run and low shot. Looked at first as though just wide but bailey actually just poked it around the post. So subtle I think ref might not have given corner. We had loads of time to hit back if required but it might have been a lot more difficult if we had had to come from behind.
