Just been reading this story about Milly Dowler's phone being hacked by the NOTW.
Now, the Guardian have done a good job of uncovering the evil of this company, but the press and other media put this page on p.14.

I always fear a moral campaigning press. They want the freedom to destroy lives without any constraints on their action. I really wish our politicians had more balls and acted to put them on a proper footing of having rights balanced with responsibilities.

They are now not much different from the churches of old. Highly moral, hypocrites who are only in it for the bottom line.

I was going to post this but didn't know if it'd break the no politics rule.

Anyway, I actually think the NOTW should be eradicated over this - it's one step too far.

This was not hacking, guessing someone's voice mail PIN was never hacking, these idiots are backward i swear to god.

Tragic story.

Having worked in the industry in the (long ago) past, I believe the Murdoch empire is and always was full of scum.

However...

I don't believe they were alone in this by any means. And that is a principal reason for relative lack of coverage from the tabloid rivals and the middle-market papers.

The fact that the parents got false hope because of them deleting some of the messages really makes me angry.
Hacking into celebrity's phones is one thing but a missing child's is sickening.

Nah its not politics. In politics there are two sides to each argument.

But i doubt any decent person could ever defend what those assholes at the notw done.

Scum, subhuman scum.

and the owner of this rag has more power than we realise, and will get more when he gets control of BskyB. a free market yeah, right.the sooner we hammer c###ts like this the better.

Don't you think it'd be a good idea to just completely ruin this particular paper just to prove a point.

Or fine News International a massive sum of money - 50% of it's global worth would do it.

As I've bored you with before, I despise Murdoch and his influence on the media.

This is a new low though. There HAS to be accountability if the allegations are proven.

For me so much of the media is corrupted it is difficult to know were to start. Regulating reactively has proved itself totally ineffective so there needs to be a massive proactive movement regulating media.

The best form of regulation is for people not to buy their **** rags.

But it seems that way too many people are either not bothered by the lies and crap they print or buy into it.

Moral campaigning press my arse.

I have to laugh at the whistleblowers here - the Guardian. That lot (and others) took the Wikileaks documents, published the guts of them and then had the brass neck cheek to join in the mob attack on Julian Assange!

NOTW/Guardian...they're all ****ing scum.

Well that works en masse in certain cases (The Sun being the obvious example) but regardless of that there is still a real need for an active regulating body who act on a set code rather than waiting for us to put a complaint in.
