Free players

We got Bernard on a free last season, so is that something we should be looking at doing more of especially with fair play rules stopping us spending big season after season. Here's an 11 made up at players who will be free this season should we make a move for some of these or are there others not here?

Giroud signed a new one year deal, apart from that I wouldn’t have any of them based on our current club model

Problem is there's no such thing as a free transfer. Bernard cost quite a bit once you add up the higher wages, signing on fee and agents fees etc

Still cheaper than he would have been if we bought him with a year or more left on a contract.

Kompany might be a bit stressed having to manage and play for another team as well as us. Not that he would be stressed with the Anderlecht job, but playing for us is enough to make you age 10x faster on its own.

Pretty much all of those players have already got clubs lined up or will have their contract extended.

The thing is, as that goalie we signed shows, if you get someone on a free you often have to pay them a gazillion bucks in wages, which makes them practically impossible to shift if they turn out to be poop. Case for the defence: Sandro Rodriguez.

Kompany isn’t available, Godin isn’t, Giroud isn’t, pretty sure Caballero signed a new deal. Isn’t Herrera pretty much signed with PSG? Milner wouldn’t come. Balotelli isn’t free I don’t think.

Free agents can be terrible for the club as you normally have to pay them more in salary to make up for the lack of transfer fee (player greed). Just look at Sanchez over at United and how he’s destroyed the wage structure there.

Bernard was a good one but I don’t think we should be attracted to players purely because there’s no transfer fee.
