Yes Squire, I disagree with that too. Put it this way, I have a brother who owes thousands and has ruined our mother financially due to football gambling. I know all about it and find it disgusting.

Fair enough. I have had my own gambling issues in the past and have seen how destructive it can be. I do think however that sport is rightly associated with gambling and the problem lies with the way it is managed (by the betting companies). Most people who place bets do so without problem, we can’t just stop talking about it in places like this just because a few of us have has problems. My own opinion obviously and not wanting to judge your own family situation

A very fair post mate. It's a very dangerous thing to be plastered absolutely everywhere.

If you're not looking at the shirts then you're seeing the adverts before, during and after every single game on TV. If you are at the game, you've got billboards with gambling firms being advertised on them.

They suck people in who don't realise how much money they are losing simply because they physically do not see it going from their wallets. Then once their account is empty, they just apply for payday loan after payday loan to continue gambling, allowing their addiction to spiral even further out of control.

"Only gamble what you can afford to lose" should be the motto, but obviously these companies will take you for everything they can. It's a business, they aren't doing anything wrong, just there ought to be much stricter regulations in place.

I'd like to see blanket bans on gambling advertising anywhere near a football ground, on shirts, clubs having "official betting partners" and TV and radio adverts banned an hour before and after every single live game on TV.as to not encourage live betting out of boredom.

You’re right, it really is everywhere, maybe I’m blind to it to be honest.
Also agree with you about not physically handing over the money, I have won many thousands over the years and yet never once withdrawn a penny from my account, I just leave it there and gradually put it all back on, it’s not real money, it is virtual money and therefore I treat it very differently.
Interesting !

Exactly mate, it's ridiculously dangerous! Your point about not withdrawing is probably relatable to thousands of people, likely loads on here too. I sometimes - rarely - put the odd acca on in the hope of winning big, but if I lose it's only the cost of a pint so I am not really bothered. I could go on for days about my brother and how he's financially ruined my mother, but it'll just make me angry going into it. I did read that something is changing next season with regard to advertising during matches, which ought to help a little.

Yes, they are stopping all ads during (possibly before too) matches.

It’s too easy, and whilst yes, I’ve taken the offer and got a shirt from it, it’s just extremely addictive.

Personally, I’ve got an addictive personality. But I’m also a massive fanny, and I can’t bare to lose £5 so never bet more than that.

But I looked at my account and seen my out goings for the year being £850. That’s a huge amount and I’m shocked. But whilst I’ve now taken a step back from my betting account... (actually closed them all).

I’ve stoped and just noticed how much betting is EVERYWHERE. Why exactly do they need to advertise? I mean without advertising people are going to bet regardless. It makes it a bit more fun, but stop a second, and it’s just poor.

I’m delighted it’s going to stop. Who is it, is it BT, who actually have a betting ad before the start of the game, and they split the screen?

Shocking.

I don’t actually know a person who doesn’t own a betting account. That for me is scary.

I have just checked my email and sure enough, I have had the same email ad you :)

know a fella involved in addiction charities, was chatting to him about how gambling was the most destructive of them.

basically if your an alcoholic or a drug user you can only realistically spend 200 a night etc. plus the end game is at least there you get drunk or you get off your face and pass out or whatever.

if you win a bet great, how long does that feeling last before you think ill double this etc, also with bookies, casinos online theres access to gambling at all times and you can bet thousands.

its a horrible thing to be addicted to, but as someone else has pointed out 99% probs of people who use these sites or go to bookies dont struggle to deal with impulses so is it fair to stop it for everyone same as achohol

Well that’s mine just been delivered
