Well, he certainly got more out of what was there than his predecessor, Dave Stringer. They were 10th, 15th and 18th in the three seasons before he took over and took them to third. They did finish fourth in 1989, but Walker inherited only seven of the 24 players who comprised his end of season squad in 1993, so he did plenty of building, to be fair.

I seem to remember a lot of those players already at the club. Im not taking anything away from him. it all seemed to click for that season he had. Chris sutton was a huge part of that. He led that line superbly. He was already at the club.

Do you think how confident someone is can have an effect on the things they do?
It’s a bit chicken and egg, but the team went into this season with a clean slate. Lots of positivity around the club, not much expectation.

The fans were largely fine until we started conceding 4 goals against Bournemouth and Brighton. So to put this on them, isn’t the one chief.

Some key players like Jeremy Goss and Ruel Fox certainly were. Walker built cleverly on those players, including Sutton who had scored only two First Division goals for the club prior to Walker's appointment. I am not here to defend Mike Walker. I'm just saying he was demonstrably successful at Norwich and had improved his club's standing in a way that, say, our current manager really wasn't and didn't before being appointed at Everton.

He did a good job there ,
They played nice football as well.
Was awful for us.
I went for him in the Winslow after the last game of the season.
The manager brought him in and said Here is the man who kept us up.
It was funny as it went dead quite
Then me and my mate franny went ballistic and ran at the bar and tried to get at him.
Lucky for him, we knew the manager , who got in the way.
He pushed Walker out of way and calmed us down.

I agree it's a 2 way thing - needs the right balance....
