Football management is a results-based occupation.
It doesn’t matter how much blame can or should be aimed at owners, the board, the players, the fans, referees or other scapegoats, if the results don’t come, the manager goes - it is just a matter of time.
An average of 1 point per game doesn’t guarantee that a club will avoid relegation (in fact it usually means a relegation struggle) but if a team isn’t maintaining this minimum level then the manager comes under increasing pressure of being sacked. This season’s mid-November break (after 16 PL games) for the World Cup will provide a good opportunity for clubs to make managerial changes before the restart on Boxing Day.
If we haven’t 16 points (not a big ask) by mid-November then we will be looking for our eighth(!) ‘permanent’ manager since
Moyes left.
We simply won’t get a better chance to start accumulating points than against Forest at home next Saturday.
