As you have correctly said, we've also had some terrible performances with a back 3.

This is not mainly about formation. This is about style of play and knowing our identity.

Everton is not and never will be a slow paced, passive, possession based team full of slow technical players.

We are an aggressive, direct, high intensity team who put opponents under pressure with pressing and balls into their box.

Lampard's obsession with possession based football from the back is the reason he will be sacked. He hasn't got players to make it work and it completely nullifies the benefits of playing at Goodison. I hate his new style. Its total garbage
I genuinely don't know what it's about - players, board, tactics, formation, inspirational team talks or lack thereof. The manager, however, is the manager. Unless they can legitimately point to a meteor strike, or a video of a drunken and drugged up owner giving away good players, as the cause of the team's ills, then a 12 month plus tenure means that if results are dire, it's your fault. Although I was never convinced by Lampard from the getgo, I genuinely wished him the best, and think he seems a decent bloke. Nevertheless, results are results, and he has to go, for the club's sake and his own.

Here's how it goes we lose the next three Frank is sacked there's limited time left in the window for whichever manager they pick off the roulette wheel of "EPL proven" names next, meantime we are mired in crisis and a relegation scrap. And this time the fans don't have the energy or anger to step up

Potter is an astute guy. In public all managers give respectful soundbites about their counterparts and colleagues, so when GP said he had no interest in coming here it struck a cord with me (it's not typically what managers who are eager to climb the ladder say, and was a very clear statement that the EFC hot seat is a shytshow).

I don't blame him one iota for taking the Chelsea job - he's spent his entire career working upwards, doing a great job everywhere. I applaud his ambition and desire and determinaton to get one of the biggest jobs in world football (feels like only yesterday he was in charge of Svenska FC giving Arsenal a run for their money). That kind of self belief and focus and determination should be applauded........ even if he's probably not quite the man for the CFC job.
Yeah fully agree. I've never heard anyone with a bad word to say about him. That might change this season, like. It was a bit jarring, that, but he was spot on. Why would he leave a club where things were going well and he had a good relationship with the owners to come here?

I agree, it doesn't work.

That being said we actually won the ball back 7 times from Brighton in their own third yesterday. Know how many times Brighton took it off our defenders? 0.

The issue is Lampard's build up. In the 433 he has two of the midfielders basically running away to the no.6 who is the one who's on the ball. That's fine if that no.6 has amazing passing ability but none of the players we have there do. Onana doesn't, Gana certainly doesn't, and Iwobi has never been a good long passer. Garner might have it, but he's A) not fit, and B) very raw.

That's on Lampard, and he needs to recognise it's not the way to play a 433 with this set of players. 433 shouldn't be played that way with good players, never mind the tosh we have.

Good post mate. I like the breakdown and analysis, as it helps me understand the chaos we watch.

Also a good post. Totally agree.

we sack lampard today

we bring in a new manager

we stay up

Next 2 league games are Southampton and West Ham, the only 2 teams that are somehow below us.

We know how this ends
People have seen it play out all season but somehow think we stand a chance against either of them.
