If the fella doesn’t get results then he gets sacked, that’s just the reality of football. He gets criticised where appropriate and he may prove to not be good enough in the long run, but I will always appreciate what he did for us last season in the darkest time to be an Everton fan potentially ever. He’s a much bigger and braver man than me taking that job, he had no reason to take it and it could potentially crater his career.
Exactamundo.
He's a multi-millionaire. Set for life barely 40 years old. He could have sat with his feet up in some london mansio- sorry, "tory fort", waiting for the easy option to come his way. He didn't. He wants to be a Prem manager. Only 20 people can be. He didn't just "accept the job", he fought for it [by all accounts, as best I've read].
He immersed himself in the club, the fans, the people far far far more than the likes of Silva or Koeman or Allardyce ever did; he "got it" right off the bat - and whilst he may not have the experience he's no idiot; he's highly articulate, intelligent, astute and has not long come right out the 'modern game' himself. If anyone knows what is required to meet standards, surely it's him.
But ultimately, the numbers don't make great reading. No hiding from that. That is the bottom line that will determine his future. At time of writing, the club are clearly behind him. It would not surprise me one iota if he gets the boot a few games into the season re-start based on the numbers - he's under pressure, no doubt. I hope he rides it out and comes through it, but if not, I think you could also understand feeling hard done by if it goes the other way.
