Everton were 16th when Lampard took over. We are 18th now. He has played every formation going in this period. Does he know what he is doing? Pretty sure he is taking us down.
We were on the slide when Lampard took over, it isn't right to judge him on how he has done with this group of players. I don't believe any manager could have done any better given the players he has do deal with. He has changed personnel, he has changed systems and nothing has worked. We are going to have to trust someone with a long term contract and give them time to sort out the complete shambles we have become. I don't know if that man is Frank Lampard but I do know you can't blame him on our current predicament, to sink to the depths we have takes time and a level of incompetence away beyond Frank Lampard.

OK but swapping and changing all the times gives the impression he does not know what is best. He was appointed on the strength of being a famous player rather than a good manager so a big risk imo. I agree though that we are now stuck with him and that he should be given time to zee what he can do but I predict in 12 months there will be a widespread clamour for his head.

Injuries

Neither Lampard nor Benitez are good enough for Everton:

Lampard
P 12 W 3 D 1 L 8 GD -10 Pts 10 PPG 0.83

Benitez
P 19 W 5 D 4 L 10 GD -10 Pts 19 PPG 1.0

If Lampard gets 9 points from his final six games then I am more than happy to concede that he is a ‘better’ Everton manager than Benitez if it makes some fans feel vindicated about their views of Benitez. All managers are ‘victims’ of individual mistakes. Personally, I couldn’t care less about the manager. They come and they go. I do care about points and performances. Any manager that delivers points has my backing. If they deliver performances as well then I’ll be singing their names from the stands until they leave. Neither Benitez nor Lampard have proven to be good enough for Everton. Saying one is better than the other is like saying that Watford is better than Norwich. It’s not going to matter at the end of the season.
I agree with the last part but not sure you are comparing like with like records there one took over in the summer was able to have preseason and bring in players and remove others from the squad, the other took over at the tail end of a season where we were sinking for many reasons I cited. I do think we have improved at home and generally slightly, of course it's all moot and would Lampard have been my first choice? Probably not he is quite naive as most coaches with three seasons experience are, but I have been behind him. Of course only results matter at this stage of the season I totally agree I am sick of good performances and hard link stories we need points now! If we go down its on everyone at the club not just one manager but both and the dof we had and the board and the owner. But more widely on the one hand of course managers have a responsibility for results on the other, there are deep issues at this club from the top down which mean we have had seven managers in six years which means the root isn't the coach for me. And until the whole club is aligned from the owner down we won't progress.

Does it have to? If someone is objectively wrong for the role, that argument isn’t invalidated if the person putting the argument forward doesn’t have an alternative in mind. The club has a committee to determine such things and I think they got it wrong. Was a better candidate among those considered? Who knows.

Well its easy to say he's wrong man but we didn't have a plethora of candidates applying.

It’s obviously not solely his fault but he has cost us points certain games. He was very very naive in the first few games and unfortunately we didn’t need nativity at that time.

Wrong manager to bring at that time imo
Didn't know just how bad and gutless some of these crabs are

Who would have been the right choice? Simply changing the captain of the Titanic

The Titanic would be sailing up and down the Mersey now as a tourist boat had they changed the captain before they hit an iceberg….. assuming they got in an old experienced gravy loving skipper to get them thru the rough patch instead of a young inexperienced one. ?

Do you think we would be in this position had Lampard been appointed in the summer?

I don't personally

You are most probably right, we are now a club that sacks managers rather than trying to sort out the real issues within the club. We need a period of stability, years of stability to repair the damage the last six years of chopping and changing has caused. We are a minimum of 10 years away from winning anything, the sooner we realise that and start to be more realistic about our place on the football ladder the better it will be for supporters and club. We need to establish a new identity because presently we don't have one. We need a long term plan to rebuild. We need to stop haemorrhaging money, we need to sort out the Board and then we need to rebuild a squad. Shedding our deadwood will take three years as we have players you couldn't give away.

No but that’s a separate conversation. In my opinion we followed up a shocker of an appointment with the wrong appointment given the situation that the club was in. I hope he proves me wrong and keeps us up but it’s looking unlikely

Probably a function of us being a very public circus over the last few years. It may very well be there wasn’t a suitable candidate in the bunch but that shouldn’t stop us from calling out the one who got the job for being unsuitable.

We’ve made our bed, and all that…

It's not mainly his fault but why even bother hiring him in the first place if he can't keep us up? Would have saved us some money.

Should have kept Benitez and saved millions but the club pandered to the players downing tools and rabid fans yet again.

Even if we had gone down he would have brought us back up most likely. Its uncertain if Lampard would do that going off his Derby stint.
