What you’re describing is the football Bielsa was playing at Leeds. Blindly continuing the same methods and systems regardless of who they were playing. As a result they’ve had some massive thrashings this season and that poor goal difference could be the difference between them staying up or going down.
Lampard has done the right thing- realised the players couldn’t play his preferred method so has successfully adapted and as a result is picking up some much needed points.

We haven’t got the players to dictate the play mate. It’s needs must at the moment. I’m hoping next season we bring more pace and creativity into the team particularly a proper number 10.
