Comparing apples with oranges. Def mids don't get the same recognition and weighting but Pep was just as valuable to the team as their 'stars' and when Cruyff left and Van Gaal came in he took over the captaincy and won title by 11 points.
Most players dont become great players and most great players don't become great managers - but it can help, and there are always at least significant top player managers across the eras and always midfielders in there like now with Ancellotti, Simone, Zidane, Conte. Sure as night follows day there will be more coming. Maybe more so as these pampered, branded, millionaire players look to someone they can aspire to and want to relate to that aren't in the same mould as the youth coaches nor of the old legend ilk.
Not saying Frank will make the grade but at this stage you can't say he won't either. Simone could have been kicked to the curb his first few seasons as coach.
