We are definitely not in the financial position to be cancelling players contracts, we would have to pay them off and any potential transfer fee we could have got goes with it.
Would need some expert accounting but wouldn't be impossible. Would be predicated on a major sale, like a Richy or Dom.
Problem we have is no one wants to buy them. Gomes for example is on £100k+
a week. He's not going anywhere unless we turf him out on loan and pay half his wages or "cancel" his contract.
Sportrac say hes on £112,212 a week. That's £5,835,000 a year. 2 years left. That's £11,670,000.
We sell Richy for £60mill (low ball figure) and offset that to get rid of Gomes, still leaves us with £40+mill in a fee plus a massively healthier wage budget.
Arsenal had Aubamyang with £25mill left to pay on his contract. Apparently they are paying him up to £7mill in installments and half of his wages up until the end of the season.
There's ways it can be done. I just think it would put us in a better picture long term if we bite the bullet. Our wage bill is killing us.
