….whenever I see three CBs on the team sheet, it signals to me that two aren’t good enough. If Mykolenko is out, play Townsend as an authentic LB in a back four.

While I do generally agree, for me it signals a defensive weakness in defense and midfield. Perhaps midfield even more so than the backline.

I think it's a mad sort of logic though. If you're going to go with it, it needs to be a long term strategy. If you're a centre half learning your trade in most parts of the world it'll be very rare for you to have a true understanding of how a back three works. As an occasional strategy I think it just sows discord and confusion. A centre half's bread and butter is working in a pair. Adding a third person to the mix creates all sorts of havoc.

On top of that, it surrenders numerical advantage in midfield and invites wave after wave of pressure. To work it needs very mobile midfielders who can cover ground to both close space and make space. They also need to be adept at receiving the ball and being positive in possession.

If you want to protect a weak team pack the midfield. Stodge the centre of the pitch and strangle the game out. To me it seems simple, but I'm surely an idiot because Ancelotti, Benitez, & Lampard are all renowned coaches and they see a need for this 5 at the back thing. I just bloody hate it.

As soon as we stop playing it I guarantee* we start picking up points again.

Messiah last week, novice manager this week apparently.

People need to grow up. Lampard is what he is, a decent young manager. It’s not down to him whether we stay up or go down. The players will decide that, but this lot have been cruising for years.
some People on here are deluded. It was my opinion he was a terrible choice, because he is inexperienced, a bad coach and can’t get his team to defend. But nah, on here you are accused of being a RS if you don’t buy into the hive mind.

he is inexperienced and will be learning on the job - which is terrible timing for us considering we need the business now. That said, these players are an absolute disgrace. It was never about Rafael, the past 6 managers. It’s these players, they are all crap with terrible mentality.

Who did you want in?

heads will roll now and it’s a good thing
More heads have rolled at Everton over the last six weeks than in revolutionary France. And what has it achieved? The heads that truly need to roll - in the boardroom and on the pitch - are still very much in situ. The managerial musical chairs that takes place in our dugout is bread and circuses for the plebs while Goodison burns.

He knows how big the job is, tonight wouldn't have changed a thing.

He's won't chuck any of them under the bus because they're such mentally fragile footballers they wouldn't be able to take it.

He'll have another few days now, work woth them, get VDB and Dele up and running, get DCL back in and attack teams because unless we have a backing of 10, we ain't keeping a clean sheet.

We cant panic or that will be the end.

We need Goodison to win these matches now. The players need the fans like never before. If the fans rebel against Lampard now it's over.
We've got to back a manager in, and i think we have to do that with Lampard.

Let's hope some backsides will be kicked at Finch Farm after this, and hopefully then we'll put Leeds to the sword at Goodison.

No idea what the thinking was changing Gray for Dele, Completely different players and made Evertons game plan completely muddled and allowed one of their full backs to push on knowing there was no threat in behind. Dele was an absolute mile off, sometimes it happens. He shouldn’t be near the team at the moment judging by that performance. The other tactical changes, van de beek especially, was also very strange and seemed to be purely to give him some minutes while conceding that the result was gone. Please learn from this Frank, Newcastle are woeful and they’ve just beaten us easily. I hope the experienced back room staff will be involved in the autopsy

We have a novice manager learning the job in the middle of a crisis now. Tonight was utterly unacceptable. Frank needs time, but we don't have much of it to give. The calculation was a new manager bounce would help us avoid defeat in games like tonight and keep us up. Otherwise, what was to be gained by sacking a highly experienced manager? It made people feel better for a week. And now? We're in massive trouble, badly beaten by Norwich and Newcastle and now the worst side in the league on form. The Lampard appointment could yet prove to be the final, definitive Moshiri blunder. We're in a death spiral now as the injuries continue to mount. These players will cave, just as they did tonight and Goodison will turn toxic and hostile as they flounder against the likes of Leeds and the fear reaches nuclear reactor explosion point. But yeah, "enjoy the ball."
Yes, there was a new manager bounce to be expected, but the skunks were unbeaten in 5 and spent loads of money, their tails were up
It was not a great game for franks first league game, we were then very unlucky with injuries.

Who did you want in?
Someone who is more experienced, can set up a defence, is suited to fighting relegation battles where sometimes you just have to defend deep and take a point where possible And win dirty.

lampard will have us attacking all the way to bottom. Fat Sam would have been a better choice if the goal is to stay up.
