I have a friend that just made the change, and wants to be referred to as she. Occasionally I still mess up and refer to her as "he." Feel like an ass when I do.

The actual change? How feminine does she look? My friend hasn't started the physical transition process yet, so I find it hard to remember to use the opposite gender pronoun when talking about them.

Yup, and she looks fairly feminine. She comes from a very Orthodox Jewish family so it's been very tough for her to be accepted by the family. Still a lot of people in the community there for support though. She always struggled with gender identity, even when we were kids. Proud that she feels comfortable for once.

Cool. I hope her family can accept her as she is now. Hopefully one day we'll get to the point when it's a complete non-event when someone comes out as gay/trans-sexual/transgender.

I think they will over time. It's not like they completely isolated her, they just refuse to acknowledge that she's female now. I have a cousin who came out as a lesbian on my dad's side and most of my family cut ties with her. My dad, mom, brother, and I still talk to her but that's pretty much it. She's a strong girl but it's taken a bit of a toll on her and I hate seeing that.

There are two openly homosexual posters on here and a bisexual poster.

Pretty sure there are more openly gay / bi posters than that but, for the life of me, apart from Beardo, I can't remember who they are, which probably reinforces the view that no-one cares.

@Ashtonian - we have a few people on here who have said that they've served time and no-one batted an eyelid.

That moment when a mod Outs somebody to the whole forum.
