Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

CAN FYLDE CAUSE AN UPSET?

Eight time F.A Cup winners Manchester City take on Duncan Ferguson's Fylde in the last eight of the F.A Cup at The City of Manchester stadium. Last season Fylde got to Wembley to face Tottenham Hotspur but were beaten 3-0. Fylde have defied all odds this season once again and a place at Wembley awaits them. Last season they beat Arsenal 2-1 at Mill Farm to reach the last four and now a trip to the Etihad Stadium to face one of Europe's greatest teams is a spectacle all Fylde fans will be up for. Duncan Ferguson would be hoping fatigue plays a part for City as they played away to Benfica just three nights ago in the Europa League. It will be interesting to see what side Max Mustermann fields this weekend with a full strength squad available to him.

I’ve heard through a source that Nuno hadn’t had a job since Spurs sacked him and has been sunbathing in Florida for the past 15 years. Apparently now looks like a hairy raisin.
He was in the running for the Everton job in 2031 after Benitez retired, their supporters wanted him around for another season as promotion to League 2 is within their grasp and a new manager could halt that progress.

Sunderland and Fleetwood both dropped points which put second place back in the hands of Fylde. With Fylde in action in the F.A Cup this weekend they will play Preston North End in ten days time with a chance to overtake Sunderland putting promotion in their hands.
Business end now Fylde. On for the treble here lads. UTFC!

F.A Cup fever swept around Manchester with Fylde visiting the city for their encounter against Manchester City. The players were roared back down the tunnel after completing their warm-up. Duncan Ferguson opted for a three man midfield consisting of McKimm-Forster, Wilson and Wisdom. Russell Carey was leading the attack for Fylde. Man City kept the ball well and got it out wide to Zhang Yin, the winger crossed into the box and Monserrat beat Gibson to head home and make it 1-0 on 14 minutes. Four minutes later Lucas Deschamps' free kick deflected off the wall, fell to Svoboda and he bent it into the top right corner doubling City's lead. Fylde will have to come out with an attacking outlook. Dube pumped the goal kick forward and Carey nodded it on for Bytheway but he had nowhere to go and was closed down. City were in total control and Dube made some good saves to keep the score at 2-0. It was a dominant first half for Msn City, Fylde failed to register a single shot. Ellis McKimm-Forster made way for Declan Marshall in the second half with Fylde looking to play more attacking football but City were not letting up and despite Gibson clearing the corner, Alustiza drilled it home to make it 3-0 on 47 minutes. Fylde had little to shout about today as City cruised to victory. They can be grateful they only conceded three goals this afternoon.

DF: We came here today excited to play one of the world's top teams and we wasn't here just to make up the numbers. Unfortunately Man City were levels above us, they had some top players out there and they deservedly beat us. We won't get too disheartened here, we reached the last eight of the cup and we are within earshot of promotion. We have to put our efforts into the league.

Into the business end of the season and what a day this could be. Preston take on Sunderland in the big match of the day and a with Fylde taking on Rotherham and Preston over the next three days proved to be pivotal in this year's promotion race. The only change Ferguson made was bringing in Richard Macrae for Sam Gibson at Centre back. Rotherham had the better chances in the first half but with only two shots on target to test Dube who wasn't troubled. Fylde were not clicking going forward and Jones was limited to getting down the left wing. Time was running out for Fylde and with news Preston were beating Sunderland, a chance to emulate them was shrinking. Sam Gibson was on for Macrae and his first involvement was pumping the ball forward for Henderson who flicked it on to Carey, with only the keeper to beat he had to score, the keeper done well to turn the shot behind. Fylde played with more fluidity as the game was coming to a close, Morton's cross on 89 minutes was closed down for a corner. Jones aimed for Carey at the back post but his header was clutched to the chest of the keeper.

It doesn't get any bigger than this in League One. The league leaders against third place Fylde. A win for Fylde could see them taker control of 2nd. Michael Dawson was having an incredible season managing Preston and with four wins from their last five, they are clear favourites to take all three points at Mill Farm. Patrick Uttridge was back for Fylde and he partnered Jordan Wilson in the middle. Carey was not seeing his earlier form and was on a goal drought of ten games without a goal. Fylde got the crowd going in the first few minutes, they were first to every ball and putting in great tackles to win it back. John Jones pumped it forward and Carey was through on goal, he shot but the keeper saved with his legs. It was poor defending from Fylde when Short swung in the free-kick from the edge of the box and Gibbons headed in his first goal of the season. Poor marking costing Fylde and they had been the better team in the first 25 minutes. Sam Gibson was unable to win the ball. Mick Wisdom replaced Jordan Wilson on 38 minutes due to Wilson struggling with fitness. Ten minutes into the second half there was a coming together with Marshall and Saidi, the referee came straight over and issued Declan Marshall with his second yellow card, Fylde were down to ten men. With 13 minutes to go John Jones took the ball from Dube and played a great ball through the middle for Russell Carey, he shrugged off the defender and slotted past the keeper to level! Fylde passed it around in the middle, Uttridge took the ball and Gibbons came in late, the whole crowd demanded him to be sent his second yellow and the referee brandished it, both sides are equal! 4 minutes of stoppage time, Gibson got it out wide to Henderson but he lost it, his legs wEre tiring, Short came forward and passed it to Naylor who shot from outside the box but it went wide. Three minutes into stoppage time and Preston had a corner. Short whipped it in and Wisdom headed clear, Waite-Brown took it down and directed it into the bottom corner to steal the victory for Preston! That was the last action of the match and it's Michael Dawson's team who have one hand on the title!

DF: That was a hell of a battle out there. There was some tackles flying in and we got stuck in. That goal at the end was our own fault, we failed to get out of the box and allowed them space to take the shot. We've got to pick ourselves up and get a win against Ipswich if we are to stay in this promotion hunt.

AFC Fylde vs Ipswich Town

Fleetwood were only two points behind Fylde and a win against Ipswich was desperately required. Fylde were feeling the pressure of late and a change of McKimm-Forster for Wilson seem warranted by the manager. Declan Marshall was suspended so in came Josh Ferguson. McKimm-Forster played a great long ball to Henderson over on the left, he got to the line and crossed in, Bytheway hit the shot on the bounce but it drifted wide. John Jones whipped in the free-kick and Whitehead Davies took it down, he seemed to have been fouled and the referee gave Fylde the penalty! Euan Henderson stepped up and put the ball low into the bottom right corner, 1-0 to The Coasters! The lead didn't last and Saunders crossed in from the right to find Dunn who levelled for Ipswich. John Jones was furious with Euan Henderson. Tyrone O'Neill came on for Josh Ferguson with 25 minutes to play. O'Neill was involved straight away, he got it wide to Bytheway and he crossed low into the six yard box and Carey slid in to knock it home! 2-1! 73 minutes and it seemed the introduction of O'Neill sparked Fylde in to life, Bytheway crossed into the box and Henderson met the ball at the far post to tuck it in to make it 3-1! Morton got forward down the right, it seemed to be a weakness for Ipswich, he crossed and Carey rose up to head in the fourth! Brilliant from Fylde! A great turn around in the second half saw Fylde clinch all three points but Sunderland came back from 1-0 down to beat Aldershot 2-1 to keep Fylde in third place.

DF: When an experienced player can be called upon and help the team like that, it is a satisfying feeling. Tyrone has been in this situation many times before and he knows what's required. If he can continue like that in the next six games we have a good chance of promotion.
