Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

Bradford City vs AFC Fylde
5th February 2033

The only change made to the team was Mick Wisdom came in for Patrick Uttridge. Fylde were in incredible form but Ferguson knew they could not get ahead of themselves and still hard to work hard for the points. Promising left back Corbi Jarvis who joined Bradford on loan was in the starting XI after turning down Fylde in the January transfer window. Jarvis played the ball to Page on 5 minutes and he had a shot from outside the box, it rattled the bar, Sam Ashford was there to tap home the rebound and made it 1-0 to Bradford. Fylde struggled inside the first 20 minutes and Bradford were trying to get the second goal. Jones won the ball inside his area and got it to Bytheway, he came forward at speed and had support from Henderson on his left and Carey on his right, he played it to Henderson and he tried to get the cross in but he was dispossessed to the frustration of the Fylde fans. Three minutes into the second half Fylde had a free-kick 30 yards out. Jones swerved it around the wall and it beat the keeper smashing into the top left corner! An incredible free-kick! 1-1! Fylde needed to defend better and a poor clearance to Richard Williams saw him smash the ball low into the bottom corner a few minutes later to restore Bradford's lead. Whitehead-Davies won the ball back just outside his area, he passed it to Morton but he was caught short, Armstrong got in and put it past Dube to make it 3-1. Terrible defending from Fylde. Euan Henderson was ineffective and he was replaced by Colm Goode on 54 minutes. It wasn't going right out there for Fylde, the long ball tactic was being deployed but Carey was unable to take his chances. Duncan Ferguson could not wait for this match to finish and he was straight down the tunnel at Valley Parade.

AFC Fylde vs Chesterfield
12th February 2033

Fylde need to bounce back with a win if they are to stay in promotion contention. They are eight points clear of Fleetwood who are in fourth and three points behind Sunderland in second. Josh Ferguson was given the nod ahead of Declan Marshall. 4 minutes in Gibson played the ball long upfield, Alexander took a bad touch and Henderson was in, he ran forward with only the keeper to beat but he put the shot wide. He should have buried it. John Jones looked like he had a minor injury but he carried on, he took the ball on the left and crossed in but it was headed clear, Wilson got the ball down, found himself space outside the box and shot low into the back of the net! Just what Fylde need! Joe Donnelly replaced Euan Henderson for the last 25 minutes. It was nervy moments for Fylde in the last 15 minutes, the news came through that Charlton were beating Sunderland but Brumwell got into space and when he received the pass made no mistake of putting it past Dube, 1-1. Fylde were forced to defend in the final minutes, Dube pulled off a great save which looked like going into the bottom corner. Fylde will be relieved to hear the final whistle as it was Chesterfield who were looking likely winning this match.

Bristol City vs AFC Fylde
F.A Cup Fifth Round
15th February 2033

A place was up for grabs in the Quarter Finals. Patrick Uttridge and Ellis McKimm-Forster lined up in midfield with fans questioning why Jordan Wilson was not included. Fylde started well and looked calm in possession, the sell out crowd were right behind Bristol trying to make it intimidating for The Coasters. Fylde passed it around nicely creating space for Henderson but his shot was closed down on the edge of the box. Five minutes into the second half and Morton came across to take the throw towards the Bristol byline, he threw it to McKimm-Forster and he played it back to Morton who crossed into the box and Henderson guided the header into the top corner! 1-0 to Fylde! Fylde had their noses up, Marshall played it wide to Bytheway, he crossed in for Carey and he headed towards the bottom corner but it was just wide. McKimm-Forster had a good 60 minutes and was replaced by Jordan Wilson. Fylde were defending very well and were calm in possession. Fylde just had to see out stoppage time, Carey took the ball in the centre circle and played it wide to Bytheway, he lobbed it forward into the box first time, Henderson took a touch but it ran away from him into the hands of the keeper.
The whistle was blown and Fylde were into the F.A Cup Quarter Final!

DF: Second half I knew we could go out there and play a bit more expansive, we did and we got the goal. It was a great finish from Hendo and we are excited to be in the last 8!

MK Dons vs AFC Fylde
19th February 2033

John Jones was not fully fit from his minor training injury this week so Steve Stockbridge came in at left back. MK Dons were putting Fylde under early pressure but Dube made some good stops early on. Carey had two chances in the first ten minutes but the keeper held his nerve to turn them behind. Wilson took the ball from Morton and whipped it towards the back post and Henderson tapped it home to make it 1-0! Henderson was playing well and won the ball back, he played it to Bytheway who got to the byline and crossed in for Carey but his header was inches wide of the post. Stockbridge was replaced by John Jones with just over 20 minutes to go. MK Dons went with three up front in the last ten minutes pushing for the equaliser. Wisdom won the ball from the MK Dons throw and nodded it to Carey, he played in Henderson and he rocked the bar. He was unfortunate not to get his second. We went into stoppage time and Fylde were in possession, Henderson played it wide to Jones, he crossed into the box and Bytheway chased it down, the ball was knocked back to Morton on the edge of the box and he swung it towards the far post where Henderson was lurking and he made it 2-0 with a tap in! Euan Henderson was at his best this afternoon and his two goals got the three points for Fylde to put them in second on level points with Sunderland.

Needed that win against MK Dons just to steady the nerves. Hendo Hugo, what a player. As good as Ronaldo, I hope he plays until he's 49 like Ronaldo did.

That’s right played until he was 49 , I’m struggling to remember his last club . He used to have a goals game ratio of 1.1 until he went there then totally ruined his average by being completely abject , the only failure in an otherwise stellar career . Went for stupid money as well as I recall , Where was it he went again ? Ever…, something I’m sure it was .

Good to know. Couldn’t get my harpoon out of that sweaty robin. Even me and a couple of the linesman couldn’t shift it. Put my chinos in the wash four times to try and get the mess off.

That's why I always have 2 of the same pairs of chinos Jimmy, just in case.

And I always take them the laundrette. Wouldn't trust me mum to wash a window, let alone my chinos

This will take some explaining but I think you will agree
There is no use pretending that there's hope for you and me

And I love Hendo, but do you think he can see
When I tell him, it's the end for you and me
It was over, ever since you went and shot me

AFC Fylde vs Bolton Wanderers
26th February 2033

Russell Carey was absent from the matchday squad with a minor injury picked up in training so 33 year old Tyrone O'Neill got his 4th league start of the season. Adam Seaden was a known danger man from free-kicks and on 8 minutes he almost found the bottom corner from 25 yards but Dube was across to tip the ball wide. John Jones was also dangerous from set-pieces and on 28 minutes he played it to the far post, Whitehead-Davies timed his run brilliantly and slotted to make it 1-0! Whitehead-Davies headed Seaden's free-kick clear just before half-time and it set Marshall off on a great run, he played in O'Neill but his shot was put wide, he should have done better. Into added time of the first half and Seaden had another chance from 20 yards from a free-kick, he kept it low again and Dube got a hand to it but couldn't stop it going over the line, 1-1. Euan Henderson was struggling with his fitness and Joe Donnelly came on with 15 minutes to go. Fylde conceded another free-kick in a dangerous area, Paul Hicks fancied this one and he managed to find the bottom corner to put Bolton in front. Bolton have turned it around and stole all three points. There was no come back for Fylde and set pieces cost them in this match.

Rochdale vs AFC Fylde
5th March 2033

=Rochdale result.png

Russell Carey was back for the trip to Rochdale to the delight of the Fylde supporters. The match didn't quite go to plan for Fylde and on 24 minutes Vince Bytheway hobbled off with an injury. Carey went to the right side and Colm Goode went up top. He was still waiting for his first Fylde goal. Morton was operating down the right providing support to Carey, Carey played the ball forward for the overlapping run of Morton, he crossed to the far post and Henderson arrived to slot home his 20th goal of the season just before half-time! Thacker lost the ball on 59 minutes and it allowed Marshall to capitalise, he got it wide to Carey who was in acres of space, Carey shot towards goal and the keeper palmed it away. 62 minutes and Wisdom hoofed it wide to Morton who done well to keep it in play, he knocked it forward for Carey who tried to shoot first time but it was deflected, Wilson got in and had a pop but it just rolled wide of the post. Henderson took it down well on 75 minutes and Carey was in space again, he took the ball and had a shot but it was straight into the arms of the keeper, poor effort. It just wasn't going right for Fylde and they needed that second goal. The match went into stoppage time and Rochdale had a throw deep in the Fylde half, Nesbitt found Smith who crossed into the box for McManus and McManus went down, it didn't look like there was much contact from Morton but the referee awarded the penalty so late in the game! McManus placed it down and in front of his own fans slotted past Dube to make it 1-1 with what must be the last kick of the game! A deflating blow to Fylde and two points dropped in their bid for promotion.

DF: It's a knock to out confidence to concede so late in the match. We were desperate for that killer goal and we just couldn't get it. The penalty was soft, we didn't deserve that decision but what can you do? We have to be better in the 90 minutes and take our chances. We never today.

AFC Fylde vs Exeter City
8th March 2033

=Exeter result.png

Exeter were 6 points clear of the relegation zone whilst Fylde were 3 points off Sunderland who sat in 2nd. Fylde really needed to make a statement this afternoon at Mill Farm. Fylde were getting the ball into wide areas, Bytheway played it into the box and Henderson headed it across goal and Carey never gambled, the ball just rolled across the front line. Fylde were trying to create in the first half but Exeter put up a great defensive wall which Fylde just could not break through. Two minutes after the break, John Jones took the free-kick on the byline and crossed into the box and Whitehead-Davies was there to head in the opener! Flinders took the corner for Exeter on 75 minutes, Morton pulled down Bentley in the box and conceded the penalty, twice in two games! He avoided a sending off despite already being on a yellow card. Flinders stepped up and went for power towards the top corner, Dube saved! Brilliant stop! He saved Morton this week! Fylde needed that second goal. It was a tense finish at Mill Farm but it was three points for Fylde. Some goals would have been nice but it's still a win and they move within a point of Sunderland.
