Ferguson changed the team for the League Cup clash with Portsmouth. Okoroji, Jolley and Stockbridge came in at the back with Daniel Embid in the middle, Pirone, Marshall and Maja also got a start. The first half lacked action but it was Portsmouth with the opener on 35 minutes through midfielder Joe Joyce who hit a low shot that got into the bottom left corner past Foster. Fylde came out for the second half were more intent and Pirone played a nice ball into the box for Maja who hit the crossbar. Declan Marshall was trying to carve open an attack, he played it wide to Stockbridge who crossed high into the box and Pirone headed into the net to make it 1-1! Pirone took the ball from Foster with 12 minutes to go down the right, he came forward but was tackled by Jordan Marshall, he played the ball across the back and Declan Marshall pounced and blasted it into the corner! He put Fylde in front! Daniel Embid committed a foul on Frost outside the Fylde area and received his second yellow and was off. Josh Ferguson came on for Marshall to help in the middle. Frost took the free-kick hoping to equalise and it cannoned off the bar and into the hands of Foster. The board went up for 5 minutes and Portsmouth were going long. Jordan Marshall crossed into the box from the left and Ashord got up to head through the hands of Foster, 2-2! Frost came forward for Portsmouth and Jolley made the tackle but the ball ran through to Overton and he chipped it delicately over Foster to steal it for Portsmouth! The sending off for Fylde has been a blow to their chances in this match. They're out of the League Cup at the first round stage once again.

Sunderland vs AFC Fylde
17th August 2030

=Sunderland result.webp

League leaders Fylde travelled to thr North East to take on fellow promotion contenders Sunderland. It was an attacking start to the match from both teams but neither side could break the deadlock. Josh Ferguson came close on 31 minutes when Bytheway took the ball out wide and played it to Ferguson who dribbled past a defender and the keeper took his shot to the chest from close range. Both keepers were playing well and Ferguson wanted more creativity from his players in the final third. John Jones tried a shot from the free-kick and the keeper made a great save onto the crossbar, Alan O'Neill was there to react and he headed in the rebound! There is the breakthrough! Fylde held their lead as the match rolled into stoppage time. Fylde won the free-kick just inside the Sunderland half and John Jones sent it towards the far post, Elsom headed it for Sunderland towards the post and Henderson got his head to it, the keeper got across to keep it out, Josh Maja turned and put it away! 2-0! That's the three points for Fylde! Maja's first goal for Fylde!

DF: To get a result at the Stadium of Light is incedible, they are a very good team and what can I say? John Jones is sensational. He is going to have a huge career ahead of him in football. If he keeps playing like this Leicester will want him back!

Ipswich Town vs AFC Fylde
20th August 2030

=ipswich result.webp

It was a difficult trip to Ipswich for Fylde three days after playing in the North East and Daniel Embid came in for Jordan Wilson. Josh Maja got a start up top. Former Fylde defender Ryan Reynolds started at the back for Ipswich, a player who was handed his professional debut by Duncan Ferguson. Fylde couldn't get near the ball in the first 5 minutes and paid the price when Sam Thomas played in McAuley on sight of goal and he buried it past Foster. Fylde hit the bar twice in the next ten minutes, Bytheway and Embid both crashing shots against the woodwork. It wasn't the best showing from Fylde and they struggled to get near Ipswich. The players just didn't seem interested out there tonight.

AFC Fylde vs Rotherham United
24th August 2030

=Rotherham result.png

Duncan Ferguson handed a start to 22 year old defender Andrew Jolley and Pirone started on the left with Euan Henderson on the bench. Mark Morton failed to clear the ball sufficiently on 18 minutes and attacking midfielder Paul Gerrard caught it on the volley leaving Foster no chance of getting to it giving the visitors the lead. Fylde went into the break trailing but the introduction of Euan Henderson in the second half sparked Fylde into life. They couldn't find the equaliser and after bringing on Maja to support O'Neill up front, Gerrard got his second of the match to put the game to bed on 80 minutes. Gerrard sealed his hat-trick when he headed home Edgecombe's cross on 86 minutes. Duncan Ferguson was completely livid. It was a disastrous performance from Fylde and there was simply no work ethic from The Coasters.

Cambridge United vs AFC Fylde
31st August 2030

=Cambridge result.png

Newly promoted Cambridge were off to a good start in League One with their free-flowing attacking style of football and Fylde were reeling from two defeats which they needed to bounce back from. Ferguson was concerned about Tyrone O'Neill's recent displays and it appeared he asked him to drop deeper to pick up the ball as he was in today's game. John Jones was brilliant down the left but his team-mates were not putting their chances away. Neil Cooper took the ball for Cambridge and turned the defence before unleashing a great strike to beat Foster and go in front. Minutes before the end of the half, Fylde failed to deal with the corner giving a poor clearance away to Seb Quirk who chested it down and hit it into the top corner to double the lead. Cambridge never let up and the Fylde defence were completely stunned when they made it three, Steve Paterson scoring from outside the box. Fylde were knocking at the door but they just could not find the goal to get back into the game. Fylde were abysmal and it got worse when Neil Cooper hit a shot and Foster caught it but then dropped it into his own net. The goalkeeper who was once incredible to watch looked a shadow of his former self.

AFC Fylde vs Manchester City U23's
Checkatrade Trophy Group Stage
3rd September 2030

=Man City U23 result.png

Fylde were back in this season's Checkatrade Trophy and will feel underwhelmed after playing in The Championship last season but it is a competition they have a good chance of winning. Neil Foster got injured in the pre-match warm-up and Tom Hadler started in goal. Sam Gibson got his debut in defence alongside Andrew Jolley and Adrian Pirone started up front. It was all Fylde in the opening few minutes with Pirone going close with the header that just went over the bar as he tried to convert Morton's cross. Henderson turned well on the ball on 30 minutes and got it to Bytheway on the outside of the box in view of goal but his shot was tipped wide round the post. Fylde were in total control, Pirone was in good positions but he just couldn't find the net. Fylde had a total of 13 shots on target and the keeper was in top form. With a minute of stoppage time to play, striker Gabriel Jesus popped up with the winner when he blasted home Aour's cross. It was Jesus who grabbed the winner and it gets Man City off to a great start.

DF: We controlled the match, showed desire but we just couldn't find the goal and scoring is becoming an issue for us. It's something we need to pay attention to.

AFC Fylde vs Port Vale
7th September 2030

=Port Vale result.png

Fylde needed to put an end to the poor form and with Euan Henderson out with a tight hamstring, Pirone started on the left with Tyrone O'Neill in the hunt for his first goal of the season. Josh Ferguson won the ball back for Fylde on the edge of the box and played it back to Pirone who ran forward towards goal creating space for himself to hit a great right footed shot low into the bottom corner! Fylde's inability to keep a clean sheet went into this game when Mitchell crossed into the box and Chris Rice headed into the top corner to make it 1-1 but Fylde came straight back with Pirone playing the ball left to Jones who got to the byline, crossed in for O'Neill but the keeper punched clear, Josh Ferguson won it back with a great tackle, O'Neill played it right to Byrtheway and he put it over the line beating the keeper! It was a dominant first half for Fylde and they really should be out of sight at the halfway stage. Fylde continued their dominance in the second half and were in search for the third. Jones was exceptional down the left, he played it forward to O'Neill and he tried to cut it back for Bytheway, he stretched to get there, took the shot and it deflected to O'Neill, he put the ball in the back of the net! But the flag was raised, O'Neill was fractionally offside. Port Vale struggled to get near Fylde in the second half due to their sheer dominance today and its three points in the bag for The Coasters.

Kidnapping time?

Ward out!

Ski mask
duct tape
transit van
harpoon

is it time ?

Do you know something Jimi, I got locked in my own van once for 13 hours with those very items you mention.

I took my white 2 stripe sock off, put it over the top of the harpoon and put the ski mask on it. With the duct tape I made little eyes and a mouth. Called him Wilson.

In the end, I got bored so used Wilsons head to smash through the back window and torched the van as it wasn't mine after all.

I'll never forget those sacred hours me and Wilson spent together though.
