PRE-SEASON RESULTS 2023/24

A productive pre-season tour of Portugal produced some fine wins for Bolton although the games were more about fitness and warm weather training. The most notable win was the 7-0 thrashing of Malveira on the eve of their departure. It was back to the University of Bolton stadium for a match against affiliates Chelsea and Bolton had the majority of the possession narrowly losing Alvaro Morata's 86th minute winner.

DF: We're ready to go. I can't say anymore than that. The only problem I have right now is we have lost two left backs (Poundje and Okoroji) to injury for the next month and we don't have substantial cover in that position. I've got 5 days until we host Stoke on Saturday and there could be a chance of an emergency loan. Oztumer will take a late fitness test on Friday but there's realistically no more we can do in terms of preparation.

Bolton fans have been holding their excitement with the arrival of Joao Pedro on loan and Manasse Mampala on a free transfer. Lorenzo Bastianoni is likely to be second in command to keeper Ben Amos this season but the young Italian goalkeeper will be keen to take his chance. The coaching staff have spoken highly of the Italian and his work rate in training since he joined the club two weeks ago.

There is still time in the transfer window for Ferguson to further strengthen his squad but The Scot seems happy to keep with what he has got. With issues with the board not supplying transfer funds this summer, it has been a difficult window for Ferguson and his backroom team. He has been unable to be successful in the window as his competitors. Time will tell how the season will pan out and whether Bolton can continue that magnificent form they ended last season on.

5 league fixtures and the start of the League Cup in August. Ferguson carries a good record in cup competitions throughout his managerial career. The friendly against Boreham Wood will be handled by the U23 squad and players lacking in match sharpness.
