Forgive me Farhad, for I have sinned.

At 8 I thought it would be a good idea to support whoever was top of the league and it turned out to be Leeds.
I didn't change allegiance but always kept an eye out for them and still like to follow them now.

Bored in work so...

Here is the place to lay bare your sins regarding our beloved Everton in hope of some kind of resolution, but most likely ridicule. Seeing as I have created this thread I will go first.

The first football game my dad took me to was the Everton vs Arsenal game at the beginning of the 04/05 season. I sat in the main stand surrounded by Blues as Arsenal smoked us 4-1 with Reyes, Bergkamp, Ljungberg and Pires scoring for them and Lee Carsley getting our solitary goal. However I wasn't really allowed to celebrate any of the goals as I was an Arsenal fan at the time. I was young, naive and my dad clearly wanted me to escape the life of suffering I would inevitably have by supporting the blues so allowed this terrible behaviour.

I switched allegiances however and we now have season tickets.
Serves you right

That's quite some admission! My wife says that to me whenever we're on the end of a good tonking - "Why don't just support a better team?" etc.

The thing is, if I had to categorise my feelings for the club it is not really related to winning, or being entertained. The closest analogy I could make would be that of a son or daughter. I want them to do well, sometimes I get a bit cross with them, but at the end of the day we win and lose together. I just want to be proud of them.

It is different, because a football club is a lot of different and changing people, so I'm free to hate Allardyce with every fibre of my being.

I did once, in school, pretend to be a Man Utd fan as they owned the only part of the playground that was covered and it was raining.
Have you told you wife
“Evertonians are born not manufactured. We do not choose, we are chosen. Those who understand need no explanation. Those who don’t understand, don’t matter.”

I supported Manure till I was 7
Pleaded with my dad to take me to a game
We lived in Dublin and he went to Goodson 4/5 times a year
He worked for Aer Lingus so had free flights
He had a best mate who lived in Liverpool so stayed with him
This was 1967 by the way
Couldn’t get to the United game so he took me to Everton vs Sunderland
Everton won 4-0 with Morrisey getting a hat trick and Harvey the other one
I seen the vision do some magic and the hush of the crowd when he got the ball had me hooked
I was chosen that day

sadly we only have ryanair these days and you need to book strategically early to avoid getting stiffed on price. Am now bringing my six year old over twice annually, the inter generational handover continues!

My confession comes from 7th May 1994. Those that know your history will already know the significance of that date.

I was 19 years old, I'd been a season ticket holder for 10 years and grown up with the glory years of 2 league titles, an FA Cup, a ECWC and 4 charity shields. But by 1994 things were on the decline and Everton faced a relegation battle. On the final day of the 93/94 season Everton needed 3 points against Wimbledon to stay in the top division. Since my very first game in 1984 I hadn't missed a single home game but I just couldn't face the agony of seeing my team get relegated so I went to play golf instead. Walking down the 3rd fairway I switched on my radio to hear that Everton were 2-0 down and relegation was looking a certainty. My game suffered as a result. I put my next shot in the left side bunker and ended up with a double bogie. By the time I got the 9th I was 12 over par which was unheard of for me but I didn't care, my team were losing their top flight status for the first time in 40 years. I didn't turn the radio on again until I was back in the clubhouse and I over heard someone saying Everton had pulled off the comeback of the decade. All posh golf club etiquette went out the window as I scream out in celebration at the top of my voice and hugged anyone within reach including a known kopite that got in the way.

I've felt guilt ever since about not being at that game, it could have been the greatest game I'd ever been to but I still have the memories of being there when we beat Bayern Munich at home and being there to watch us win a European trophy. I don't go to the games any more but relegation would still be a real gut wrencher if it ever happened.

Amen brothers!!

Okay I admit I was in the Street End and jumped up when the opposition scored !

But before I am lambasted - in my defence

1979 - Jimmy Greenhoff - Manure vs the R/S FACSF replay

Like i said, mustve been a different game a different year then. Deffo the arse, early 2k's. 5-0?

I recall a 4-0 hammering at Highbury on my birthday 3 May 1998 which just about clinched the league for them. There was one more round of games and we were saved by that screamer from Gareth Farrelly against Coventry.

That reminded me of this. I was watching it on the TV at my brother's house

When that goal went in I accidentally punched the light shade clean off the ceiling.
Sorry. Bit off topic.

If they ever invent a time machine there are two dates I would go back to
5th May 1928
24th April 1985

I wa sfortunate to know an old guy who saw the great Dixie Dean play and he said it made him sad that not every Evertonian could have that pleasure, he then nudged me and said, mind you, when you are my age, you will be saying the same thing about Young and Ball. And you know what, he was absolutely spot on! If only the poor sods who were raised post 1995 could have seen the great sides of the 60’s and 80’s!

When I was 9 I wanted to join my older brother and dad in following a football team. Our local team (plymouth) was shocking. My dad is an arsenal fan, brother a spurs fan and I liked the colour blue. Looked at the teams and saw Chelsea and Everton. Chelsea was the name of the girl I fancied so was too embarrassed to pick Chelsea. From then on its been nothing but pain and suffering.

And you wouldn't have had it any other way ;)
