....the game has changed, we always had great Scottish, Irish and Welsh footballers proudly wearing the Everton shirt. The world is a smaller place now.
Don't get me wrong. I would love to have a successful Everton jam packed with players that have come through our academy. But first and foremost I want to celebrate Everton being successful again. If that's with a team full of overseas players and an overseas manager and owner, so be it.To be honest I’m not too fussed where our players come from as long as they’re good.
I’d understand if you were advocating a team full of scousers , preferably of the blue persuasion. But I don’t see why a player from Arbroath or Maidenhead would have any more connection with our club than someone from Oslo or Fray Bentos.Yes, I get all that. We want the best players, it’s a global game now, blah blah. So you could argue what’s the point of supporting Everton, rather than A.N. Other club, anywhere in the country, or world for that matter? Surely the history of the club matters, where we come from, what we represent, where we (geographically) play etc?
Those things matter to me, together they make up that intangible, emotional connection with EFC. Having a team full of players, most of whom probably don’t get, or care about any of that feels odd.
I mean Chelsea have an actual murderer playing for them, but thats ok, too many forens = bad.
Foreign wall, built in a negligent manner by illegal aliens left in a location not approved for parking, collided with car, causing death to innocent commuters.Hmm... Seems a little vague. Do you have any more information?
and Scotland and Ireland aint producing decent footballers....the game has changed, we always had great Scottish, Irish and Welsh footballers proudly wearing the Everton shirt. The world is a smaller place now.
the guy from Oslo is a KoppiteI’d understand if you were advocating a team full of scousers , preferably of the blue persuasion. But I don’t see why a player from Arbroath or Maidenhead would have any more connection with our club than someone from Oslo or Fray Bentos.
I laughed out loud at that and got some funny looks off the lads in workAny news on the wall ?
Asking for a kopite mate ...

Errrrr, I said I would prefer us not to go down the Chelsea route. We haven’t. I’m talking about finding and developing young players. With Chelsea’s attitude, the players you’ve mentioned wouldn’t get a look in, which is my point. The best English or UK players are ridiculously overpriced at this point. We've got Coleman, Keane, Pickford, DCL, Davies, and several others coming up from the academy, which is more than most of the bigger clubs can claim.
If Declan Rice, who is mediocre at best, valued at 50M, why on earth would anyone try to get MORE UK based players? Because that is nuts.
Do they stink because they are from overseas? I'm confused. We signed quite a few that were already playing domestically, thus paying a premium for them I might add. But they were bad signings because they were from overseas?Errrrr, I said I would prefer us not to go down the Chelsea route. We haven’t. I’m talking about finding and developing young players. With Chelsea’s attitude, the players you’ve mentioned wouldn’t get a look in, which is my point.
But as you’ve brought up money, remind me how much we’ve blown on overseas flops? Most of whom we can’t shift.
good grief, what a ridiculous commentDo they stink because they are from overseas?
I know it’s probably happened before, but I noticed today Chelsea started with no British/Irish players. You just wouldn’t see that in any of the other top leagues. I would hate us to go down that route, I think you lose a “connection” with your team.
Surely there should be a requirement to field a minimum number (3 say?) of British/Irish players? Is there a rule of some sort on this, or is it the amount in “the squad”? I can’t see how home grown players are going to get a chance to improve unless that requirement is in place.
Look, dumb transfers are just that. It's just even MORE excusable when you make them within the league you are currently in.
