Hi fellows, I don't know if this has ever been done in here but I'd like the views on what the team of 84' would look like in Football Manager.

There has been some guys who built a database with legendary players and others who try to replicate the Liverpool's style of play in the match.

So, for those who like the game, how would they rate the attributes of our players and how would you set the style of play for Howard Kendall's team?

...seen references to Football Manager on here but not sure what it is, presume a sort of computer game. not exactly sure what this is about, but that side was traditional 4-4-2, two defensive central midfielder who worked in tandem, two wide midfielders who created and scored goals. An old fashioned target man up top alongside a support forward. Brilliant keeper, traditional centre half with speedy sweeper, 2 full backs who could overlap and create as well as defend. On top of being good players, a collective winning attitude.

Very good side.

Yeah, @Eggs it's a computer game.

I play it here and then. Have been doing it for over 20 years.

On the team... I suppose we used a high defensive line because we had Ratcliffe. A short passing game mainly but with some touches of direct football since we had Gray and Sharp, two powerhouses, up front.

I'd say my favourite player was Sheedy with his sweet velveted left foot. But was he a winger or more of inside or wide midfielder? He relied on movement more than on 1x1 and pace, right?

....interesting point about high line, the other factor with that is that it was a specific tactic to allow long range shots, the feeling being that it would need a deflection to beat Southall. Regarding Sheedy, he was such a class act. I would describe him as a wide midfielder, great passing range and crosses given half a yard of space. When the ball was wide right he would drift in and score goals with that wand of a left foot if the ball went beyond the far post.

Happy memories.

Sadly, I couldn't follow Everton through my youth. Not being english prevented me from doing it. The first memories I have are from my childhood, precisely about that team of 84'.

So all I have to watch and to get the idea of how we played is from that match of the final of the Cup Winner's Cup and some FA Cup finals, when we lost to Liverpool.

Even more sadly we can find a whole lot more of the Liverpool team from the 80's than of Everton. Liverpool was a well oiled machine. How did we compare in terms of style? It seemed to me that our teamwork wasn't so effective, to the point of our center midfielders not scoring as many goals as theirs. Is this right?

There's a mod for footy manager 06 (I think) which swapped the database with the '88 one. I wish someone would do something like that for the new one, it was great getting a young Gazza, Wright, Shearer etc. and developing them.

There are some databases that have football legends. But i don't think they have our players from the old.

Where do you get them mate? Fm scout? I've never noticed any but I haven't looked for them for a few years tbh, I assumed the '06 mod was the only one. I reckon I'd love a '70's or '60's database just to be able to get more familiarity with some of the players before I was born but I doubt many people would be into that as they wouldn't have heard of most of the players.

This thread needs screenshots of Boss 80's players mocked up into the FM player profile pages.

I'd do it but Im at work.

Good to see you about again pal. Hope you're well.

Sheedy was sort of in the same role that Pienaar occupies today wasn't he? Wide, but not strictly a winger.

Sheedy probably more skilful, Pienaar probably has more pace.

We were at least the equal of the other lot, if not better. I'd say we were better, myself, they were just luckier. Nothing changes.

I think there was a Championship Manager 1980's app not too long ago.

I'll see if I can dig it up and put the figures on here for you @sotnas mate.

I vaguely remember buying like a 16 years old Bergkamp for us on it and him being utterly boss.

You can legally download Champ Man 01/02 for free and there is a mod database for that with every teams best ever players at a young age. So For example Everton have Rooney, Ferguson and Dixie up front, Southall in the nets etc.

Legend mod download links here

I think @swisso was at one stage going to do the the 84/85 team as a pet project, with some of the other researchers doing their teams best squad, but if I remember rightly he isn't the FM Everton researcher any more as he no longer had he time to commit to it, so I'm not sure if he managed to do it.

Hey there Chico! I'm always coming and going but I always keep an eye on GOT and our beloved Everton. GOT is getting better and better.

@Duncan Disordely

I was trying to reproduce our style of play in FM. There is a ton of databases with legends but not a single Everton player of that wonderful team. The Liverpool fans have created that sort of project and we can even find some players of theirs on those legends databases.

@Basil Fawlty

If you google "football manager legends database" you'll get a couple of projects with players like Pele, Best, Dalglish, etc.
