guys just asking, do we want our rivals to be in Europe so that they suffer fitness wise or should hope they crash out early???????????

Happy with a point away in Russia. They're a good team and we grew into it especially the last 15. Lukaku was very good.

Stones though. Wow. Absolutely magisterial.

Say what you want about the performance, a point won from the single toughest fixture of the six and in the driver's seat to win the group. I'll take that every day and twice on sunday.

In Europe! Also so that we can have the final week of the season where we play Spurs at home on the Sunday to decide who finishes above the other in the league, and then in Warsaw three days later to decide who wins Europa. /dreams

Agreed with you for a lot of that, but stopped when you said we'd be in a relegation fight. There's teams far worse than us who won't be in a relegation fight.

Doing attack or defence well, but being crap at the other one.. that'll make you relegation / bottom half/
Doing both together, but not being very good at either, will make you mid table.
Doing one really well, and the other average, is where we are (top 10 nailed on, but not top 4.
Doing both well, bot not all the time, with the odd blip, that makes you Arsenal. (4th but no hope of higher)
Doing both very well, all of the time, makes you a title contender.

Average overall because it's wildly inconsistent - One minute Stones is putting in a perfectly timed tackle and play forward, the next Distin/Jags/Howard are having a simultaneous brainfart and some random player can barely believe his luck.... then BANG!

The fact is missing chances is OK, it happens all the time, but with defence there is no hiding place and it is the daft moments we are paying for in abundance. The other teams aren't making mistakes in front of goal when the opportunities are presented on a silver platter with a mint humbug.

A Krasnodar goal was coming, that I'll admit, but the manner of it just shows the squad still don't get it - I'd be curious to know why communications are continually breaking down.

Looking back at the derby, that was quite an assured performance by the defence (if only by comparison to the utter dross we've seen at times this season), but the Palace game.... by god, it's going to take ages to get out of the system, I've never seen such a farce since.... the Chelsea game just 2 weeks before!

I am worried. I have every reason to be worried on current evidence.

Also, just for the record, I am sick to the back teeth of commentators going on about us being the third meanest defence in the PL last year. THAT WAS LAST YEAR, IT'S HISTORY, JUST LIKE LIVERPOOL'S TITLE CHALLENGE! WHATEVER HAPPENED LAST YEAR IS NOW IRRELEVANT!
