I'd prefer UTD at home than one of the promoted teams. Everyone's up for it on the opening day, especially the promoted teams. The UTD game is a big one no matter when it's on.

First Derby at home for the 11th time on the run...and some people still wont think stuff is rigged for commercial reasons.

First impressions: United home - obviously tough, Villa away - Lambert's first home game in charge. Well - it could be better but maybe a tough start is ok - if we (as always) don't start well might as well have tough games that are losable rather than QPR & Blackburn (last year). Chelsea at the end - obviously tough. Not too many tough runs. The RS get their tough home fixtures early so they'll be happy with that. Maybe we can put them in the Championship on the 4th of May.

Guess we're on TV 12 noon on the 18th then.

I'm happy we have MANU at home. It means that the team has to be definitely up for the game, rather than having some gash team to start. I think it's a great game to start the season.

Looks like our toughest run will be November/December with:

Arsenal (H)
Citeh (A)
Spurs (H)
Stoke (A)

Oh my god.

The home derby is on my birthday.

Thanks for the worst birthday ever FA you pricks!

I'm sure you said this last year. It's my birthday too.

Just looked into the fixtures some more, these two sequences stood out as potentially "morale sapping" periods:

Arsenal (H), Man City (A), Tottenham (H) and Stoke (A) between November 28th-December 15th.
Arsenal (A), Man City (H), Stoke (H), Tottenham (A) between March 9th-April 6th.

Stand by for the Derby to be moved to Sunday - the RS are likely to have a Europa League game on Thursday 25th - hopefully in Azerbaijan. The same is probably true for the Spurs home game (8th December) although sometimes the last games in the Group stages can be played on the Wednesday.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH SO EXCITED! Manu first game of the season will be class! And we have them at home! It's always a good game against United and they are generally slow out of the blocks too. Expect a 0-0 classic then. COYB!

My take on this is that I'd rather have played Utd a bit later on. It's one of our 'games of the season' so to have it first up means we've got less 'big' games as the season goes on. The first game is always one to look forward to no matter who we play simply because it's the first game etc!

Back when we were boss, a number of seasons began with us playing Utd at goodison on a sunny August afternoon. They'd **** themselves at the thought of visiting Fortress Goodison in say 1968.

I can recall a game that we won 3-1 with Joe Royle scoring at the Park End. They had Law and Charlton in their side but we still stuffed 'em.

Maybe we can do it again...

So Man ure at home first game of the season, can someone tell me if this happened not so long back, and if I'm right didn't Japp Stam or whatever the drug taking ex manc score a home goal for us?
All i can remember was spending the Saturday night at the Morecambe Festival of lights and getting very drunk watching Suzi Quatro play live....... Oh those were the days!
