Hi all,
My husband and I, long time Everton supporters, are coming to Liverpool for the first time from the US to see Everton v. Man City. Where should we try to sit/stand? We're ok with standing for the match if that's the best atmosphere. It looks like there are a lot of obstructed views, so not sure where is best.
Any advice appreciated!
Emma

Try to avoid sitting behind @chicoazul in the Park End.

You can't miss him. Mega sized head.

Everton have failed the fans terribly on the ground front. To ask fans to pay £49 for a park end ticket v Man City just because they are the best unobstructed views in the ground is bordering on theft.
We can't offer top drawer signings/facilities/Champions league football, so why should we be paying Chelsea/Arsenal ticket prices?

Behave.
We have someone from the States coming over to watch us in person for the first time and you want to sound off about how terrible everything is ?

I'm not saying you're wrong by the way, but there's a time and a place.

Stubhub often has decent seats in the Paddock available. These are unobstructed and close to the pitch. PK 3 and PK4 are around about the halfway line, giving a decent view of both goals. The lower the row number, the closer to the pitch.

As it's your first time, you probably want to go where the atmosphere is. Whenever I'm back in town, I normally try to get top balcony, just for the view of the game. It's okay as long as you don't suffer from vertigo, or have to many dirty martinis beforehand.

Everton v Man City

You will get a good view of the pitch from the Park End at one end of the pitch - although many people prefer to watch the match from the side of the pitch. There are still two pairs of seats in PE7. Low down at the front, you can get a closer view of the players. High up at the back, you are further from the action, but get a better view of the game itself.

But be aware that the Manchester City Fans in the Lower and Upper Bullens Stand will not be far away from you. There will be some chanting from them - it may be noisy but you won't be in any danger. Otherwise look for two seats close together in another section of the Park End.

If you want a really good view of the game, there are some 'obstructed view' seats in the Main Stand MS3; Row AA Seats 112, 113, 114, 115 and the seats behind them in Row BB. These seats are close to the halfway line, and right behind the press box, now called the media centre, where the reporters and commentators sit.

However, there is a thin column that obstructs the view of the goalmouth and goal net at each end. But you can probably see most of the action if you lean forwards or sideways. You will be able to see the action replays on the two large screens in the arena, and you can sometimes see the replays on the TV screens in the press box too. I've chosen to sit in these seats on several occasions.

About half an hour before kick-off, all the players come out to warm up for about twenty minutes. The opponents warm up in front of the Park End, and in front of their own fans too. You can watch this, or spend the time with the crowds under the stand with a drink and a snack. You can't take alcoholic drinks or bottles into the seating areas. And you can't smoke anywhere inside the ground either.

Thanks Stanley! I found two seats towards the back of PE5. Seems like they'll give me the best view, despite being further back from the pitch. And not being in lower gwladys. Based on your advice they seem like the best option. Much appreciated.

Well done! There's another benefit of sitting towards the back - you'll be well under cover if it rains! Also, the roof is much lower, so the singing can be amplified.

Programmes are on sale outside and inside the ground. In a Goodison tradition, a young girl dressed as the Toffee Lady walks around the pitch before the game, throwing Everton Mints to the crowd. The referee tosses a coin before the kick-off. The winning captain can choose either which end to defend or to kick off the game. Everton like to play towards the Park End in the first half and towards the Gwladys Street End in the second half.

Going to the game, you might enjoy mixing with the fans on a Merseyrail train to Sandhills station and then the short ride by Soccerbus to the ground. You'll enjoy eavesdropping on the conversations and listening to the Liverpool accent. Ask for a Soccerbus ticket with your train ticket.

It's a good way to get to the ground, but it's more difficult to catch a bus - or a taxi - in the rush after the game. The nearest Merseyrail train station is actually Kirkdale, a ten minute walk from the ground. Look at a map to find the station. You won't get lost - lots of fans will be walking that way.

You could also join the fans in one of the modest local cafes near the ground. Some of them serve 'scouse', a bowl of meat and potato stew, served with red cabbage. It's not a luxury dish, but it's part of the character of Liverpool.

Emma, where in the US are you from? I am from CA, bay area. I posted the thread that some others linked to you above. My trip is not until December, so I'd be very excited to hear your story when you return so I can get some good tips! I'm surprising my boyfriend for Christmas :-D
