Everton have confirmed they have rejected Celtic's request to take James McFadden on loan in January.

The SPL champions made a formal request at the weekend, in an offer that has been given short shrift by the Merseyside club.

With Everton enjoying another impressive campaign they are loath to sanction the departure of valuable squad men, despite the fact McFadden has struggled for playing time of late.

Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told the Scottish Daily Mail: "It is absolute nonsense to suggest that James McFadden will be joining Celtic on loan.

"The fact is Celtic made a request to us on Saturday and it was immediately rejected out of hand.

"We are in the Carling Cup semi-finals, the last 32 of the Uefa Cup and still have the FA Cup to come.

"We also have Premiership commitments, so we need all our top players around."

While Everton remain keen to keep McFadden at Goodison Park, the player admits he would seriously consider a return to Scotland.

"I'd love to play in the Premiership but if it's not going to happen, or if a chance to go back to Scotland came in and I felt it was the right thing for me, then I would do it," said McFadden.

"The club have made it clear they want to offer me a contract and I have not gone down that road yet because I want to try to get into the team before I start talking about contracts."

Call that a bid, is just a loan deal if they are serious then show us the money we might like to try and buy ourselve but we don't like doing it when it comes to our player, beside we needed him around with so many matches coming up he plays a different game to our other striker so it always useful player to have around!

If we sell McFadden for less than 5M, then in my opinion, we're getting ripped off.

Based on the going rate for players today (and excellent Chopra example Chico), Faddy is worth quite a bit more than some of those who've been sold in the 4-6M range.

I'd come at 'em with an 8M price tag and then let them negotiate downward.

Say no less than 6M and if we get more, then it's just gravy.

The quality of player sold in the summer for the prices was poor. Just think the seaosn before, Emil Heskey 5.5mill, the last summer there was Chopra, Smith, Koumas - all average players at best and the cheapest on was about 6 million. Jimmy Mac is better than the lot of them and should as such, command a larger price.

Must just be me, but i dont understand. 8m you must be kidding. he's not very good, an he's never been any good for us.

Ok so the goal against charlton last season was a corcker, an the metelist goal was very important. But he's always been shiit.never played more than two games on the run. so,so frustrating. an hardley scores. Plus he just does'nt influence games what so ever. Half the time you just would'nt know he was playing.

Id take 5m any day for him. To say he's an important player for us just is'nt true.

anyway just my opinion....:D

It is about doing the best business as possible. Up North they believe he is a wonder-player, and with Moyes, BK, KW all hyping him up as part of the plans it means it will take a big wallet to part ways with him. We need him for the mass of games we have, and if they want him they have to pay for the privilege.

We are no longer a selling club, but at the same time if we have too many striker and could afford to sell one, then it's about time we don't let one go on the cheap!

I tell you what, the only reason he is not doing so well for us, is because he is not getting enough game, and defender in Premier League on average is better than up in SPL, he would score alot of goal playing for a good team in SPL such as Celtic and Ranger!

I think the thing about it is, that hes making sounds about wanting to leave this will be decisive, but i think wed be better if he went to a PL team as they have more money then either celtic or rangers definitely should be in the 5-6mill category!
