But if they were genuinely fussed about sustainability there are plenty of ways they could ensure that without hamstringing teams whose owners want to push to challenge the establishment clubs.
Just off the top of my head, one would be to say you can spend what you want, but at all times you have to put 5x your average annual loss into a holding account as “insurance”.
But they choose to do it in a way that massively increases the chances that the big clubs will remain the big clubs

It's a bit of both. We're poorly run, obviously, but are we really the only club in the prem breaking FFP? I just can't buy into that. It's the timing. We are. Every club’s accounts are public for you to look up if you want. Doesn’t matter if you want to buy into it or not, the facts are what they are. P&S allows you to operate at a loss of no more than £105m over a 3 year period. Our loss over that period at end of last financial year was £372m. No other club is breaching P&S apart from allegedly City who are also under investigation.
Instead of just saying anyone who thinks the rules stink is tinhat wearing, goggle eyed conspiracy theorist, explain why Man City can’t spend whatever they want?
