According to the Echo Manny is having a medical today and is lined up to sign a five year deal. We have also agreed to buy him from both parties.(y)

Echo says undergoing medical now and could be in squad for Saturday.

MANUEL FERNANDES could be in Everton’s squad for Saturday’s visit to Reading.

The Portuguese midfielder was expected on Merseyside for a medical today, after the complicated financial arrangements surrounding his transfer from Benfica were finally resolved.

Benfica accepted a £6m fee for their 50 per cent part-ownership of the player, while the investment bank which owned the other half has also agreed terms.

Fernandes will now undergo a medical examination and, if successful, will sign a five year deal with the Blues.

Tis the day we sign him me thinks

Medical yesterday, surely hes gota sign today??? I dont want to go to sleep just to hear everton news about signing him!!! Im like an excited child on christmas eve lol :)

...Fernandes, arteta, osman, cahill, pienaar, da silva (next brazilian star), neville, carsley, jagielka, VDM...

...one of the best midfields in the premiership? - surely arteta, cahill and fernandes make the best midfield on their own lol

Nope, we need to get rid of VDM, then we hae the best midfield :P He takes away from the overall rating..... ;)

Its a very good midfield, but still lacking a bit of width. We need one really bloody good winger.

It does pose a question now of who we put in the centre of midfield, as Moyes says, currently its Neville & Carsley. You cant drop Carsley as he's the rock in our midfield, but look who we have for that position now:

Neville, Carsley, Fernandex (hopefully), Cahill, Jagielka, Da Silva

My money would be on Carsley & Fernandes, but what about Cahill?

The delay has been caused by the PL picking its way through the contracts, DM is hoping that Manny will be in the squad tomorrow! See SSN

All in all he's building a squad that can and should hopefully be able to deal with whole season and all the games that reasonably successful cup runs will provide. Carsley is no spring chicken and will require a rest every so often as will Stubbs, we have a few players that are capable of playing in a multitude of positions so we may start to see a little bit of squad rotation depending on how poor the opposition is.
