Maybe not for people that are quite old.

But for someone as young as me, he was a hero for me, a legend, he is exactly what a legend was in my eyes.

He was [Poor language removed] brilliant, i loved him.

Your right their cal, he's only a legend for younger people. Im 28 and luckly i got to see howard kendals dream team 84-87. what a team, best in europe. sheedy, steven, stevens, rats, mountfield, grey, sharp an reid jyst to name a few.

I always loved the way dunc loved the club, the tatoo, fighting for the boys etc. But for the wages he commanded of us, he was never really that good. The worst thing is that he could of been one of the best if he could have stayed fit.But that never happend. And his goals tally was really poor for a striker.

I watched him right through his career with everton an most of the time he was very frustrating to watch, because on his day he was a match winner an proved it a few times. He just never seemed to be up for the games against lower opposition. so frustrating.

I must admit at times i did love him, but for most he was'nt good enough. He just came along at the right time when we were looking for a hero.

Dunc- sorry not this time.

I remember reading an interview with John Terry just after they won their first league title. When asked which striker he hated playing against he said Duncan was the hardest striker to play against.

I've got to agree with that. Certainly we didn't have many other players through the lean times that would have made the oppo nervous. For me, he was the only player since Nev and before the fat manc that was The 'insert any adjective here...'. World class defenders and keepers were free in their praise of him and he was known as one of the hardest strikers to play against. The fact that he took the club into his heart completely and the fact that Everton stood by him when he needed us is all testament to a character that stood head and shoulders above anyone else we had to offer for a good few years.
Legend for me.

Welcome mate.

Its a bit of a mixed bad really, he was a die hard blue, who undeniably had big impact in the team in terms of playing and charicter for a long time. That has to be very much appreciated at the time, he gave quality, spirit and sometimes an easy out for the gash that ws in the team at the time, we all have great memerios of dunc, the goals against united etc.

But he was payed a lot (not his fault but it did inhibit us as a club), he did have his fitness issues, his arieal threat sometimes rightly but sometimes wrongly dictated how we played as team, and dont orget he was nuts too, he used to get straight reds at important times of the season when we had a threadbare squad!

All in all a great servent but id say more ofa cult hero then a legend.

legend no
hero yes

dunc could of been a legend but the injurys and his temper stopped that happening

a legend would of scored not throttled or punched someone
