Fellaini's best performance

And that's why it's called world class..........

I get what you're saying but I don't believe there can only be eleven. If you're one of the best in your position in the world then you're world class for me.

I mean, I wouldn't say Rooney isn't world class because Messi would get into a world XI in his position ahead of him.

There isn't a team in the world that would be weaker for having Felli in their starting eleven.

He's not the best midfielder in the world. But he could be.

World-class means one of 2 things:

- the player has potential to play in and improve any current team playing in the world today.
- the player has proved he consistently performs at the very highest level.

For me, Fellaini fits the first. I rate him higher than Mascherano or Khedira in that favoured position of midfield destroyer, with the bonus that he can cause massive damage when played higher up.

He obviously doesn't fit the second, as being from Belgium and playing for Everton (ouch...that hurt) means that the latter stages of international competition and Champions League may not happen for him.

Another example of world-classness...Matt Le Tissier. He never played at the highest level either, but he was world-class.

Fair enough, but no more than a team squadfull....otherwise every Tom Dirk and Hawwy would be getting called world class...

Aye.

Although I do genuinely believe Fellaini and Baines are world class. But it's hard trying to convince non-blues that two of the best players in the world play for us.

I swear to God they are though. All I have to ask myself is this: If I could swap Fellaini or Baines for any other DM or LB (respectively) in the world right now, would I?

Would I [Poor language removed].

NO NO NO, world class means, at the very minimum, that you would be considered to play in a World Team, i.e the best team in the world. WORLD CLASS. Using your criteria there would be about 15,000 world class players ffs.......

Eh? My criteria is that at least one of these are met:

- the player has potential to play in and improve any current team playing in the world today.
- the player has proved he consistently performs at the very highest level.

Everton have 1 in Fellaini (as much as I love Baines, he's not quite world-class...he's international-class tho').

When you compare to other teams:

Liverpool have 1 in Suarez (yes, a cvnt he is...but he's world-class).
Arsenal have 1 in RVP
Chelsea have 2 in Cole & Drogba
Man Utd have 2 in Rooney & Vidic
Man City have 1 in Silva
Spurs have 1 potential world-class player in Bale

There's not that many going around, mate. Some players I didn't list you might argue are also world-class, but the last 2 seasons they've not shown the consistent super-high quality, so for me they're only international-class along with Baines (the likes of Ferdinand, Lampard, Torres, Cech, Gerrard, Mertesacker, Valencia etc).

So where do you get 15,000 players from?

The 'define world class' argument is possibly the most pointless argument in football. Everyone has their own definition, none of which are set in stone. It's just a term people use for 'absolutely ****ing top player'.

Well, county class means being good enough to play for your county, international class means being good enough to play for your country, and world class therefore means being good enough to be selected for a world team......
