Twitter tells me this morning, that to fend off interest from Chelsea, we are offering the big man a new deal.....a wonderfully reliable source of Sportingo....Either way, I do hope we are
The towering midfielder is coveted by the Premier League champions who see him as an ideal addition to their physically imposing yet technical gifted squad with question marks over the form of John Obi Mikel and Michael Essien this season. The 23-year-old fits the preferred age group of new arrivals at Stamford Bridge and has proven himself to be perfectly suited to the rigours of the English top flight since his £15m move from Standard Liege two-and-a-half years ago.
Such is his importance to Everton that they are preparing to offer him terms similar to that of Mikel Arteta who became the highest earner at Goodison Park when he penned a new deal last summer. The Toffees have made a habit of acquiring players cheaply and selling them on for a considerable profit in recent years - such as Joleon Lescott and Wayne Rooney, sold for £22m and £26m respectively – but the margin on Fellaini would be less dramatic given the price they paid for him in the first place.
Having recently lost the services of Steven Pienaar to Tottenham for a paltry £2.5m as his contract was due to expire at the end of the season, Everton will be desperate not to see that happen again and if the Belgium international refuses to sign on the dotted line, he could be sold sooner rather than later in order to receive the largest possible transfer fee.
