Fellaini No10 role.

I think you've made the mistake of thinking all our play goes through Fellaini, it doesn't. We go down the wings and we play through teams from time to time.

You need more than one style of attack and we have that with good crossing from both flanks, Pienaar and naismith looking for the through ball, mirallas getting at people and getting in behind and then the longer ball for Mo to bring others in and cause chaos around the box.

Jelavic is out of form, pure and simple. He was finishing everything last season, he's ballooning everything this. It's a team game. See them as a pair and they are scoring a goal a game. We're not gunna better that ratio whoever we play behind Jela.

To be honest, i would have taken 13 goals between them at this stage of the season. You won't find many strike partnerships with more goals.

i think its more like the reduced supply from the flanks so Jelavic has to come looking for the ball more. He's playing OK but just not in the goal scoring positions he was when he was netting. When Kevvy Glass Legs is back and Pienaar finds some form I expect Jelavic to be back to being a boss slotter.

I've thought a little about this. We all know Jelavic loves to pull back and peel defenders off but isn't that hole usually filled by the ACM making late runs into the box? Maybe Jeli is finding a hard time sharing that spot with Felli's gravitational pull? :/

idk I just keep thinking that Jelli did fine when playing alongside Vellios and with Felli playing CM against S'land. Granted it was only for 15 minutes.

It was a good 15 minutes to be fair. If we played like that over 90 minutes then Fellaini and Jelavic would get 6 goals each per game. That's 228 goals each per season!!!

No one could keep up with that.

It's plain to see that his physical presence is required further up the pitch against certain teams. For instance, the game against United, he was absolutely fantastic. We could've been playing anyone that day, and I think he would've cause serious damage.

But you only have to look at the game against West Brom and he was effectively 'found out'. Fair play to them, they took their chances, but they also bullied him, and ultimately us, out of the game.

I read an interview the other day in which he stated that his preference is a more defensive role, as he knows his duties more so for that area, and that it was Moyes's decision to play him further up the pitch. Something he is also happy with.

The fact that he's this adaptable means that we should be playing to that strength more so than anything else. Against the more physical back lines, it does make sense to play him further up the pitch to support Jelavic somewhat. But against sides who like to play it more centrally, there's the argument that he should be played alongside Gibson to provide further cover for our defence.

The fact remains that he's quality and that he's doing a solid job for us wherever he's played.

Personally, I think that our best midfield is:

Gibson Fellaini

Mirallas Naismith Pienaar

as Naismith isn't near as useful as Mirallas is on the wing. And that way, it's also allow Fellaini a more box-to-box role, with Gibson staying put in front of the back four.

Our best midfield includes Osman and doesn't include Naismith, imo.

I'm not sure what exactly Naismith has done to earn a starting place. Rather play Barkley there, tbh.

I think he looks like a bit of a poacher going off the goals he's scored TBH. And we could do with someone like that whilst Jelavic is 'off-colour', as it were.

Osman is quality, and I initially had him in behind the striker, but Naismith has netted a few from close range whilst he's started on the right. It'd be worth a punt playing him off Jelavic IMO. Could possibly re-kindle what they had in the SPL too.

Fellaini is not to blame IMO.

A combination of Gibson being out and the fact that there has been very little supply/creativity from the wings with pienaar out of form and mirallas injured also.

Jelavic played with Fellaini plenty last season and was slotting for fun!
