Fellaini was useful in the system used by Moyes.

McCarthy is effective in the systems used by Bobby.

Simple as
Spot on hard to compare the two players totally different Felli is more effective behind the striker not that effective as a defensive midfielder - He has great attributes apart from speed and tackling!

A player like Fellaini might be interesting to have as a backup for Barkley in an AM position or second striker. He is good at holding the ball while the team moves forward. He is good at set pieces. I love the way we are trying to play football, not hoofing it up the field. But sometimes it's good to have a player that can get a hold of those balls if a defender is under pressure and need to clear the dangerarea quickly. Need more pace though and a more dangerous shot.

Think McCarthy is a much better all round player, but in Moyes' system he wouldn't have scored the goals Fellaini did, so there's no right answer imo.

I'd much prefer McCarthy in our midfield now than Fellaini for many reasons, so that's all that matters really.

He won't work in our system.

You saw that last preseason, he can't pass for [Poor language removed] and he only likes the ball played high to him. How many crosses reached their targets last season? Hardly any, I'm putting that down to the change in training. We do less on crosses and more on short passing. Having a giant who can't kick a ball playing AMF is pointless. If he could pass, he'd be a great replacement for Barry, assuming he put as much effort in the defensive side as he did when he first joined the club.

I know he won't work here, that's why I said a player like him. With that I ment a player that can hold up the ball and Catch those clearingballs that will happen in games. I understand why my previous post might have been a bit of the mark I was trying to make... wrote it while on the phone.

Fellaini looks to be off to Napoli. Good luck to him over there, think Serie A will suit him down to the ground.

Annoys me how the media has decided he's suddenly crap because he's "not a United player" or whatever that's supposed to mean.

What annoyed me about Fellaini (not his fault) was that Moyes always played him regardless. If he was a bit unfit he played, disciplinary tightrope he played, out of form he played.

Other players suffered at the expense of this though. Naismith never played his correct position. Osman only had one season in the middle. Jelavic was wasted moving defenders around for Fellaini to get headers.

Martinez is willing to drop an in form Barkley if he thinks Naismith or Osman are the answer in certain games. He'll even move Lukaku out wide if tactics dictate it.

This isnt a pop at Moyes I just think for a while Fellaini was by far our biggest signing so we always felt the pressure to include him. When he was injured though we actually often played better football. Now with a healthier mix of young stars respecting older class like Baines and Jags it seens that no one player is getting overindulged.

Fellaini is history as far we are concerned, we now have McCarthy who IMO is better. Time to move on and forget about Fellaini - he is not our concern anymore.

I know where you are coming from but no player that leaves Everton is forgotten. Its part of an Evertonians DNA to remember ex players (love 'em or hate 'em). They are part of our rich history. Yes we move on but they are not forgotten. Amen

Fellaini is a class footballer better than any other midfielder at UTD they never gave him a chance because Moyes bought him
but i would still rather have McCarthy in the team his attitude work rate & professionalism is spot on where as Fellaini's attitude at times was awful turning his back on play when things are not going well is unacceptable no matter how good you are

Fellaini was mostly IMO along tall gangling misfit whose best games were as an auxillary striker .He couldn't,t tackle
often failed to track back , was slow ,gave too many stupid fouls away, had poor discipline and was vastly over rated,
was not a team player, apart from that,Everton are better off without him. M,CARTHY will improve each season he
plays and when he realises how important he is to the team the more vocal he will become, at the moment he is too quiet.
When he finds his voice he can be captain of Everton
