Marouane Fellaini is expected to be back in training early next week.
The Everton midfielder has been sidelined since February after sustaining an ankle injury in a controversial challenge with Liverpool's Sotirios Kyrgiakos during the Merseyside derby at Anfield.
A scan after the incident meant the Belgian required surgery on his ankle, consequently bringing his impressive 2009/10 season to an abrupt end.
The Belgian's initial prognosis indicated he would be out for six months, with his expected return date falling just as the 2010/11 Premier League campaign is set to start.
Speaking to the media after Saturday's 3-0 win over Preston, manager David Moyes said Fellaini is on track to return to training within the next few days, and could be available to play around the start of the new term.
“He should be able to start a match in three weeks or so,” said Moyes.
Fellaini spent a lot of his early rehabilitation process at home in Belgium, before returning to England to continue his recovery on Merseyside.
Before his injury, the midfielder made 30 appearances in all competitions for the Blues, scoring three goals.

Excellent news. Great player. If he's back on top form, could mean the difference between fourth and third place.

Magic stuff that! I love the arms swinging around...you can just hear him humming; "lah lah la-lahhh..."
