Favourite school assembly songs

We had a teacher who was a hangover from the sadistic bastards of the 60s, he was an old school religious bigot who thought that AIDS could be created by two men having sex. He was always shouting at people. Horrible man. Lost his job eventually.

I remember one assembly him trying to get us to sing "To Be A Pilgrim", and becoming more and more enraged as we failed to sing it to the standard he desired. Just making us sing the same few bars over and over again and getting shoutier and shoutier, I still find it amusing today and laugh if I ever hear that hymn.

It's not my favourite assembly hymn though, I gotta say.

I take it that you have never had to construct a suspension bridge then?
Strangely enough no, to this day that item still remains elusively absent from the ticked off section of my bucket list.

Later on at Tech I did use mathematics in engineering situations, differential calculus...the arl dy/dx stuff, youngs modulas of elasticity, standard deviation, etc, but that was after secondary school.

The point is they (still teach) taught you an awful lot of 'filler'

Edit; yes I know that you never know when some of that 'filler' might come in handy...assuming you actually remember it.
