Valeri Bojinov - Lecces striker, I think the 04 or 05 version, turned into a 30 goal season striker. City signed him in real life and I think he just played on the injury table.

I can't remember the year but I remember Sebastian Abreu was free at the start and was good for at least 20 goals a season.
Edit: I just googled him he's still playing and has become a Guinness world record holder, played for 30 clubs.... he's 44 years old.
