Playing 442 last night was naive, going to Leicester to attack on a high line with two slow CBs was naive, the first half against Watford was a shambles. Keeping Unsy there makes relegation more and more likely with each week, sadly. Yes we've shown fight but fight isn't enough.

..but it can’t continue, Dave. Regardless of the initial cause, we are conceding 2 goals every game. It’s not a one off, we actually look like we’re going to concede two every game. Unsworth isn’t arresting that trend. Indeed, we arguably look worst. I think it’s highly likely Soton will get two.
We have a problem in defence, and all over the pitch but I think last night has to be regarded as a once off. Next Sunday we will see Pickford, Baines, Jagielks, Gueye, Lennon and Sigurdsson in the team and if they were played last night it is likely the result may not have been as bad.

David Unsworth treated last night as a reserve game and we got punished for that.

..I know he hasn’t got the players but they look totally disorganised. The danger is that whoever comes in might have the same problem. I do think defending is about the whole team, though. The 2 CBs are totally exposed without a shield and the wide areas are void of cover.

Unsworth has certainly not got them organised. We need to change in the hope that somebody else can. Leaving him in charge is looking like a slippery downward slope and the crowd have been remarkably patient (I think). It will go septic soon.
I think any organisation goes out the window when they fall behind. It's a matter of poor character and poor players. The "leaders" in this team are pathetic.

..but they aren’t organised before they go behind.

It's a circuitous argument this: the personnel are substandard. All he can do - including with the defensive m/f's - is set them up to be competitive and encourage the wide players to get back and help out.

But if you have players clearly not up to any kind of job at all it;s a problem that wont go away until the personnel are gone.

We are basically paying now for retaining players like Baines and Jagielka two seasons at least beyond their expiry date. I for one was calling for their sale for a year before that.

This is all coming home to roost now. To blame Unsworth for being no better than his predecessors (and with their materials) is just illogical.

Moshiri doesn't say anything - fans go crazy about lack of communication.
Moshiri says something - fans go crazy because it isn't a definitive statement on who the next manager is

Damned if you do, damned if you don't... i'm not surprised Everton are attempting to mimic the Pozzo style of communication - radio silence until they can say something definitively.
It's a nothing statement though. That's why he's getting damned over it.

If he'd have said "we're currently in talks with someone" or given some sort of firm deadline for when we can expect a manager. Instead he's said "we're close" which he could have said 4 weeks ago and we would be in the same spot. It means nothing at all.

..i’m not blaming Unsworth. I wouldn’t argue with the root cause of the problem. We are where we are, however, and we need to at least try and get a tune out of who we’ve got. I think the best chance we have is by changing the manager now.

I'd say that if we get three points off S'ton on Sunday then a manager who's racked up 7 points from a possible 12 with this lot fully deserves to be kept on until he gets it badly wrong in the PL.

As said earlier: leave the cup fiascos aside because they are relatively meaningless. This is all about finding someone who can get a bunch of players who aren't up to it to squeeze another 28 points or so from somewhere.

But that's exactly my point, it's a nothing statement because they're not in a position to make a statement. It's only happened because he's getting lambasted by pundits, journalists and fans for his 'dithering' when we really have no idea what has been going on.

If he came out and said "we're currently in talks with someone" and then we hadn't appointed a manager by next Monday - it would generate a whole new news cycle on the matter, "Moshiri's talks fall through, AGAIN!", "Is Moshiri the right man for Everton?", "Everton Football Club an embarrassment" etc. etc. etc.

It is what it is, we need to accept that finding the right manager at the moment is proving exceptionally difficult and judging Moshiri on how he words comments to the media on something that he really can't comment on until it's signed, sealed and delivered is a bit ridiculous IMO.

He's Welsh. Wears trackies. And his name is Pulis.

If there was nothing to say then it was better to say nothing than to release a statement that says nothing. It really is that simple and it is basic PR. It's a "Watch This Space" type statement which can only come back on him.

Releasing that statement is just going to antagonize those who rightfully believe this should have been taken care of weeks ago.

Saying "We're close" and then having it be another week is going to look just as bad as your hypothetical above.
