Fans expectations

Probably. Like you said everyone else will get stronger while as we will likely lose players.

It was certainly our year for a cup final anyway. Given the utter gift of a draw we got.

What's really annoying I don't think any of the so called top 4 teams where brilliant this year including United who won it.

I agree with those saying we need a trophy bad theirs no reason why we couldn't finish 6th and still win a trophy and get Europa league through that that's what pisses me off so much with that wigan role over imagine them blue flares going off at Wembley with us pipping citeh to a 1-0 win in the 89th minute imagine the scenes **** me this is what the club needs would also put an end to the one stick the ********s beat us with the whole 18 years bollocks

Sadly, this is probably right.
It's going to be a hard summer for Evertonians.
It could also be ace !

6th is great why?

Do we get into Europe?

Whats the difference from finishing 12th to 6th and dont say money because its never made a difference to Moyes spending anyway

I think the difference is money, not for Moyes, but for Kenwrong to line his pockets and for us to stay afloat. Perhaps with new sky money coming in it won't be such an issue. But it is important we finish as high as we can in the league to pay the bills.

That said, of course I'd take a cup win over league placing, I ****ing hate watching my glory hunting mates revel in winning trophies.

It,s more that the fans don't seem to understand that their expectations as a collective whole is bottom of the pile.

1. 40-pts
2. Service Debt
3. Fans Expectations.

I applaud what has happened with german football and fan ownership, the penny dropped and they got off their collective arse to do something about it.

I do think some expect too much because of raised expectations deffinately...when we fall below them expectations people seem to fume redicilously at times. Be dissapointed yes but fume?? Don't think we'v had much to fume over in general thru moyes reign.

I do find it funny that some expect that we should win every game against lower opposition because we're better. They go mental if we lose to a Wigan, reading ect....like it should never happen! But in the same breath take all our victories against teams we shouldn't beat with a pinch of salt.

I'd say we are the 6th best team in the PL. The cups are a let down, but they hard to win its not as simple as you beat the lesser teams lose to the better teams on route to a final. Frustrating but that's football.

People are looking for excuses for us not doing better, whether it's blaming fan expectations or moyes contract or whatever but honestly this is just about how good we are. We'll finish probably where we deserve to.

If we'd put away more chances in the games we've dominated and not won, made less bad individual mistakes at the back, had better luck with injuries and ref decisions, hadn't had our main striker suddenly forget how to play football or not had a manager who kept picking Naismith and Neville etc we could be higher but that sort of things happens to all clubs. Without moyes team selctions, Neville's pointing, heitinga's defending, mirallas' dodgy hamstring and jelavic's ambitions to be a winger we wouldn't be this everton.
.
agree with all that except that I really don't think ref's decisions like the one yesterday do happen to everyone. No point going through them all but if terrible ref's decisions had evened out then we would be in the top four. but I think this is all part of what we are up against with the lack of finance. A cup would be great but they are still generally split between the top four except the League Cup. I think one big improvement would be to take that much more seriously much earlier on. As bad as Wigan was, nerves played a part and at the Leeds game it was pure apathy at times. While we are hovering close to the top four or five then something could change and we should be behind the team cos as you say.. its this team we are supporting not a make believe one, and generally the players give as much as anyone in the prem.

One thing no-one seems to mention though is that ... we are generally good to watch, even compared to the top four. as far as I remember that is why I love the game.

Things wont improve until with have hard nosed professionals at the top of Everton Football Club.

Kenwright, Woods, Earl and Elstone need to go.

Worse. Think about it; if we were predicted 14th and we were doing as we are now, people would be buzzing off their tits and the atmosphere would be great as everyone is happy and ready to support the team.

With some people expecting us to get 4th and Champions League however, when we only do as badly as "mere" 6th, some people get upset and don't get behind the team.

However, expectation is simply impossible to avoid. The better you do, the higher the expectation. The only team who seem to go against that grain is Fulham.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Its all about the cups

We are never getting top 4, I dont care what anyone on here says, The top 5 sides in the country are to far ahead of us in squad size and quality

We need to go balls out for the League cup/F.A cup

I am not arsed in the slightest if we finish 16th or 6th, Win a cup and thats what we will remember in 10 years

Couldn't have put it any better myself!
At this time in our history the league is just a step too far so let's bag some cups (any cups!) and at least then we have something to tell our kids and grandkids about. Telling them we finished 5th or 6th means nothing!
A clubs success is measured by trophies won, not positions gained in the league.
Regarding my expectations, I honestly thought if we finished around 5th/6th and had a decent cup run I would be mildly happy and that is what has happened. Of course I want more, the Wigan result still haunts me as I believe we would be in another FA cup final now, but apart from that awful result (and the leeds shambles) the rest of the season has pretty much gone as I expected.
At least now my expectations are higher than 10-15 years ago where avoiding relegation was the most I expected!

It's only natural that expectations have been raised. When we hired Moyes fighting relegation every year was our lot.Im grateful for a decades worth of top 8 finishes in the premiership but there's always that desire to see Everton improve and evolve.Finishing 6th and 7th beats just about avoiding relegation but i would like to see us make a serious effort to get back into the elite and break into the top 4.A trophy would also be nice.18 years without a trophy for a club of our heritage and prestige is a disgrace.

And there lies the problem mate your thinking about heritage and prestige instead of finance and quality.

Unfortunately how ever much heritage and prestige you may have without the finance you will NOT be part of the elite!

That's true but despite the state of our finances Moyes has managed to assemble some decent Everton teams! This year was a great opportunity to win the FA cup and break the trophy hoodoo but it wasn't to be.
