I havn't played fallout 3, but have had 'players' rave on about it like the box set of the wire. Seems plenty of hype around 'new vegas'. Anyone know what all the noise is about?

Loved Fallout3 and am still playing the DLC. I'm waiting for my mate to buy it and get bored within 3 days like he does with every other game.
Apparently it's huge but buggy as hell. Hopefully a major patch will sort that out.

I'm sure you can. It's a different main guy and everything. Bit like GTA Vice City and GTA 4 or something.
But if you do play it and enjoy it, you'll end up getting Fallout 3 anyways. Best fiver you'll ever spend. Unless you know Loose Lucy too.

Well, I disliked Oblivion. I've never really like a Bethesda game tbh, more of a Bioware fan, but I'll give this a rental and see what's what.

Fallout 3 is one of the best games EVER.. New Vegas I barely put a dent in, but it's promising. same game engine as fallout 3 but with a few cooler things added, for example new vegas is a better FPS, you can actually aim right down the iron sights now/ Not to mention mod your weapons.
as far as bugs are concerned, I've yet to notice anything.. Think PC and Xbox were haveing the problems. Then again I've only got a couple hours into it.

fallout 3 was one of the most impressive games ive ever played.

I bought Fallout 3 after a couple of years of procrastination.
It was $30 and honestly, I could have spent that on a couple of packets of Ciggies.
It started fairly well. You are born, and you pick stuff like your gender and your attributes.
Interesting. Liam Neeson is reassuring and you start growing up.
It gets good when your Dad escapes, leaving you to fend for yourself...but something about the dynamics of movement starts bugging you. The annoying way of cycling through you B-Boy or whatever its called, the landscape looks abit crap, and trying to shoot things ridiculously bad. Stupid dogs and Mad Max thugs in the school building.
Thats where I left it. He's still there, and probably will never find his old man.

You have completely missed the game. Probably because you are playing it on a PS3. Can't render the environment correctly 
I think it is one of the most atmospheric, immersive games made. Morrowwind just beats it for gameplay and story (and hours invested by me).
In fact, the only game I thought had more atmosphere was F.E.A.R.

Clunky Player movement?
It isn't an FPS either, I shot pretty much everything in that VATS thing. Satisfying watching limbs fly all over the shop in close up too.
Sounds like you've got ADHD to me McB, you needed to play it a little longer and get to the main cities, see a few of the cinematics (that behemoth in DC made me brick it) and stumble upon some of the better side quests.
Did anyone else finish the 'Replicated Man' side quest? Apparently it was very Blade Runner if you did it a certain way, but I just joined that secret brotherhood and let him go free.
