Faith in young players

We bring the really talented ones on cautiously so that we can sell them to keep the club afloat, what part of that is hard to grasp ? There was a stage when it looked like we had played Rodwell too much, and it was obvious to most that he wasnt the player we hoped and that we wouldnt get top dollar for him.. Only City would have gone anywhere near what we got for him, and not many blues I know could believe what we did get !

I just dont ser the faith in real youth 16+ - 20. Its as though he believes that anyone that age isnt ready.

Thoughts?

Age shouldn't matter whatsoever.look at sterling across the park.

If your good enough you should play.

Is he good enough?

I've heard about Barkley a few years ago and was hoping for great things,I've only seen him play a handfull of times and he was good in a few and anonymous in the others!

Barkley has done nothing to warrant a start. If he is good enough his time will come.

He tries to give games to Gueye and Anichebe and everyone moans so we cant have it both ways.

IMO Moyes needs to be careful here. Look what happened to Junior when we played Leeds. The whole thing was a disaster and it will have made Moyes even more cautious than he already is.

The youngsters are playing week in week out in what is a tough u21/reserve league that allows 4 over age players (including the goalkeeper) to help bridge the gap between the Academy and the first team.

The likes of Matthew Kennedy has been doing well in the u21s and I have no doubt has earned his place on the bench (while we have these injuries), but he as well as Junior and perhaps Barkley to a lesser extent will be concentrating on their development under Stubbs and Weir. If they get called up and get a chance with the senior squad then of course they need to grasp it.

Having said that, it is very very nice to see youngsters make the grade. I can’t get enough of Rooney's goal against Arsenal.

Keep Calm and don't rush the youngsters (y)

in all fairness Anichebe is no young player plus he has got to many chances, Barkley is also way better footballer than Gueye
i know they play in different places on the team but Ross should start before Gueye.

you won't know how good young players are untill you play them. the like of Rooney,Micheal Ball, Unsworth, Jeffers , Richard Dunne were all played at a young age, why because we were down near the bottom them times with no money small gate every week and we didn't have anything better at the club.

He got asked to play up top on his own and bully the stoke CB's into a mistake. Was one of the most depressing things I've seen TBH. Felt badly sorry for the kid.

I've no idea what game you were watching, as he just wimped out of challenges against the Stoke back line, he shat out on numerous occasions & looked weak & half arsed. The only pity I had was for us having to watch it, as it was not befitting of an Everton CF.

Barkley's been back for one game, and bringing an 18 year-old attacking midfielder on when you're defending a one goal lead isn't often a sensible move, especially when that particular player has been recently sent out on loan in an effort to fix his defensive naivety. We'll see in the coming weeks what happens, but if Mirallas and Gibson both get fit and we don't suffer any other injuries Barkley won't get many chances.

Who else could Moyes give game time to? Duffy looked competent last season, but how well has he been playing for the reserves this year? Is there anyone else currently tearing up the U21 league that Moyes is too scared to put in?

Leeds went well.

Still don't buy this, even if the result was the same. The problem wasn't mainly playing a bunch of untried youth. The biggest problem that day was that most of our senior players didn't bother to show up.
Can't expect Junior to run the show when Fellaini does his best to pull a disappearing act. The only player that I'd say got away clean from that game was Pienaar when he came on, but to little, to late. (Heh)
