Facebook...

I used to use it for keeping in touch with people, particular when we are all overseas (it's big in Africa/India), but now it has largely been replaced by Signal, which I use exclusively here at home and abroad (I barely even use iMessages anymore).

I also do not trust WhatsApp about privacy--no matter what they claim--given their owners.
Thanks, handy to know.
I'm not on WhatsApp & therefore, never get random phone calls which some of my friends do.
Don't worry I won't start asking questions on Signal.

This. Deleted my Facebook earlier this year. They make it a chore to download all your photos and even finding the function for deleting it is deliberately tedious, but it's well worth it. A cesspool of right-wing bozos and ads for things based off an algorithm that has seemingly never looked at my online activity once
Same.

I do not miss it one iota, and in fact feel like I let it rob me of years of pursuing actual friendships in many cases. I find it repulsive now, quite honestly. It is mindf£%#ing everyone who spends any significant time on it

The days of the internet, if they ever existed, being a benign source of information are long gone. It is now largely an algorithmically based propoganda machine that takes a level of training to negotiate to get the information you need. No place is worse for the than the trump bootlicking owners of social media, get rid of it
I agree mate. Weren’t even a big Everton fan until I came across this site.

Kept me going during Lockdown keeping in touch with family and friend's, plus I co run local history groups and have seen photos of places and buildings I would never have seen without Facebook

Every few days Facebook asks me to log in. So today I do so, and I am asked to confirm my e-mail address, which I do. It then says I typed my e-mail address in too quickly, and so my Facebook account has been temporarily suspended! Now, I've been on t'internet since 2001, so yes, I can type my e-mail address quickly on a keyboard. I try to go in again, and it is now asking for a video selfie. I don't have a camera attached to my tower PC loaded with Windows 10, for the simple reason I do not need one.

So Facebook can go away in short jerky motions as far as I am concerned...
@Bungle this man here is looking advice on how to post pictures on the internet.

Not much on the allied stuff....😬

No, but my research delved into the RAF side of things quite heavily. Both in tracking down Battle of Britain pilots, and corresponding with them, as shown in the attached reply from (Squadron Leader) 'Baron' Worrall of 32 Squadron.

This reply resolved the conundrum that I couldn't figure out for years. Why was the Squadron Leader flying as No. 2 to a Flight Lieutenant? The letter explained why perfectly.
