I think it was always a bad call because it gave Red Bull the chance. Mercedes had control on the track.

If it wasn't for a red flag, Max would have likely had to pit during a non SC period and it would have given Mercedes the advantage.

Thing is, there is a high likelihood there'll be another safety car, possibly a few. There was no reason to run the risk of a pit stop there.

It's the rule.

A rule they had planned to remove years ago, but for some reason or another have never actually remove. Talking objectively, without the race, it is an odd one.

A red flag should stop and halt the race/racing immediately - neutralise the competition - rather than provide an advantage through tyre changes.

I suspect the only reason they allow it is to factor in serious changes in weather e.g. it's a downpour and cars on slicks can change to intermediates or full wets.

Tell you what, looking at that wall... I don't see a reason for a red flag there.

To be fair Hamilton benefited from red flag rules in Imola and Silverstone, the rule about changing tyres should be changed regardless

Hamilton has used both compounds, so theoretically he could go back to mediums. Max can change tyres now would need to use hard tyres, so it's still open.
