I read something about that and everyone talks about the previous time it was $2 for £, and it said that in reality you only had about a 15 day window to get that rate, don't know how long it lasted this time.
fact: when working abroad the exchange rate never worked in my favour, I came back from Holland with my savings from working there and it had gone from I think 2 guilders for a pound to 3 guilders, I know it would've wiped about £2,500 off if I'd paid it in. the saving grace was it had stayed 1 to 1 with the n.z. $ so we had to not spend many and save it all for nz, I hated spending a single penny here though as things were costing me so much more i.e. beer which was more expensive anyway than Holland and then 50% dearer again because of the rate.
