With Tim Howard now set for a summer move to Colorado Rapids, the identity of his long term successor at Everton remains a mystery.

Joel Robles has largely performed well since becoming Roberto Martinez's first choice, but it remains to be seen whether he is handed the role for good.

Should the Blues boss decide he needs another option, here are five goalkeepers from around the Continent he might consider.

Jaume Domenech (Valencia)

Jaume is one of Valencia's most prized assets

The 25-year-old Valencia goalkeeper has, according to football statistics website WhoScored, been the best goalkeeper in Europe's top five leagues so far in 2015-16.

His score of 7.3 is unrivalled and has stemmed from him capitalising on respective knee injuries to first-choice duo Diego Alves and Mathew Ryan and his first match - a 1-0 win at Sporting Gijon - saw him named man of the match on his first-team debut.

He has had to wait patiently for his chance having come through the reserve set-up, and was duly handed a new deal until 2018 but following the La Liga side's exit from the Champions League, Los Che are susceptible to offers and he is not guaranteed a starting place once Alves returns.

Heurelho Gomes (Watford)

Heurelho Gomes has kept more clean sheets than any other Premier League goalkeeper

The performances of strike duo Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney have caught the most attention at Vicarage Road this season, but Gomes has undoubtedly been one of the key factors behind Watford's stunning start to the season.

No Premier League goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets than the Brazilian's tally of eight and he beats the likes of Petr Cech, Joe Hart and Jack Butland (all have seven) into second place.

He was once considered a calamitous figure during his first spell in English football with Tottenham but he would provide the experience Martinez seeks in a goalkeeper in spades and would be a definite upgrade on Howard.

Marco Sportiello (Atalanta)

Linked with Bournemouth in recent days as the Cherries look to contend with an injury crisis which has robbed them of both Artur Boruc and Adam Federici.

But there's no doubt the Blues should be on the case at the figures mentioned, with a £6m fee being mooted for the 23-year-old, who has impressed for Serie A outfit Atalanta so far this season.

His form last year prompted Liverpool to take a look at him and he could be one of the better-priced younger options on the market.

Steve Mandanda (Marseille)

Steve Mandanda has been linked with a move to Everton in recent days

The Marseille veteran has been linked with both Liverpool and Everton in the last weekand has hinted that he could be set for a fresh challenge in 2016.

He has been at the Stade Velodrome since 2007 but is out of contract this summer and, given the Ligue 1 side's current struggles, it would be no surprise to see him move on to pastures new.

Similarly to Gomes, he provides top-level experience in abundance, as well as boasting international pedigree.

Asmir Begovic (Chelsea)

Asmir Begovic in action for Chelsea

Everton have already been linked with a summer bid for the Chelsea number two, who is said to be frustrated with life on the bench at Stamford Bridge.

A fee of around £8m has been touted for the Bosnian, who would replace the experience of Howard.

Begovic has played just once since Guus Hiddink took charge and it seems unlikely he’ll get any game time soon with Thibaut Courtois established in the team.

thats a list that makes my eyes bleed. Would have been OK with them if not for, i don't know, a new billionaire owner and obscene TV money coming in? So finances circa 2007.

everton are interested in signing Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.

The Blues sent scouts to watch the Dutch keeper in action last weekend against PSV Eindhoven.

Cillessen kept a 14th clean sheet of the league season as Ajax won the game 2-0 to leapfrog their rivals at the top of Eredivisie.

The 26-year-old was being lined up by Manchester United last summer as they prepared for life without David De Gea but the Spaniard’s move to Real Madrid collapsed.

And now 6’1” Cillessen has emerged as a target for Everton who need to bolster their goalkeeping ranks this summer after Tim Howard announced he is to leave for Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids .

It is believed Ajax would demand a fee of up to £10m for the Holland international stopper who has 24 caps for his country and played at the 2014 World Cup.

Cillessen is known for his shot-stopping and footwork, a key strength that Blues bossRoberto Martinez looks for in a goalkeeper.

England's Tom Heaton during the training at St George's Park

The former NEC Nijmegen shot-stopper boasts Champions League and Europa League experience as well.

But Everton are also understood to be keeping tabs on Burnley’s No1 Tom Heaton.

The former Manchester academy keeper, 29, impressed with the Clarets in the Premier League last term and has been a major part of Burnley’s promotion push this season.

Heaton, born in Chester, is captain of Sean Dyche’s side who are leading the race at the top of the table with a four point lead.

Begovic well past it from what I've seen. Gomes is calamitous no matter what the stats say. Some pure garbage been mentioned elsewhere.

Zieler or the lid from Valencia for me. Be happy with Heaton or the Ajax keeper too.
