Everton's Next No.1

Surely that's not putting any trust in our actual academy lol

Begovic isn't really an improvement is what I meant. Butland would be better/same as Joel, but still, if we manage to get our defence to actually defend, Joel will do a good job himself and we'd just need a #2, and you can get good solid ones from abroad/Championship who are willing to be that #2. There's no chance in hell Butland coming over and becoming a benchwarmer, likewise for Begovic or any of the names involved here, and it would be extremely harsh on Joel to put him back on the bench after he played about 20 games for us in 2 years and looks decent himself.
Not sure if you're serious or not.

1) there's no chance of us getting no Butland

2) if somehow we did... He is STREETS ahead of Joel. I like Robles, but Butland is on a completely different level.

Possibly.
We need a keeper, though....would you risk it and buy crap keeper (number 2.)?

I would try not to buy any crap as you put it.
Finding another Neville Southall and tempting him to sign for us however will be much harder in my opinion than coaching and drilling the current back four to play cohesively and as a unit... together with including the likes of Stones, Browning, Galloway and Holgate to be able to step in and do a job.

Mostly because I share the sentiment in 1). Put 'same' in there as we have no idea how good Joel could be with an actually sorted out defence in front of him, and he's only played a handful for us.

Butland is proven but I reaaaaaally doubt we have a chance to get him.

I guess the biggest question of Robles capability to be a true Number One goalie will be answered when we see him in a game where we are truly, truly under the cosh... and much as it pains me to say it, we may see that in the derby as I reckon Klippitty will have the RS so wound up beforehand that they'll come flying out of the traps with Sturridge, Coutinho and Firminho in a three-man attack.
Our players minds will inevitably be split between the importance of a derby and the romance of a potential cup final appearance.

Hellfire I hope I'm wrong, but this upcoming derby is one I'm not looking forward to one bit.

Anyone but Forster, guy concedes a saveable goal every single game pretty much.

Great shot stopper,On 13 February 2016, Forster recorded his sixth consecutive clean sheet in a 1–0 win over Swansea, a run which helped Southampton rise from thirteenth up to sixth place in the Premier League since his return from injury. His clean sheet run lasted a club record 708 minutes until he was beaten by Fabregas in a 1–2 home loss to Chelsea on 27 February. Forster's form since his return from injury, and run of clean sheets, saw him win the Premier leagueplayer of the month award for February.

Pretty much erm no.

One run does not make a great keeper. Remember Robles got 3 on the spin before getting dropped, might have got 6 who knows.

Forster's had a few decent games against Barca and Arsenal and now he's amazing? He's single handedly thrown points away this past month, even worse than Howard was doing for us, and he was fortunate not to throw them away against Liverpool as well.

Alex, I live in Scotland and I followed his career here at Celtic, he was a consistently good keeper there as he is consistently good with the Saints but, like any other goalie his mistakes are magnified.

We have absolutely no chance of prising him from Southampton they wouldn't want to sell him either. They have a more stable management team and may make Europe again.

With Tim Howard now set for a summer move to Colorado Rapids, the identity of his long term successor at Everton remains a mystery.

Joel Robles has largely performed well since becoming Roberto Martinez's first choice, but it remains to be seen whether he is handed the role for good.

Should the Blues boss decide he needs another option, here are five goalkeepers from around the Continent he might consider.

Jaume Domenech (Valencia)

Jaume.jpg

Jaume is one of Valencia's most prized assets

The 25-year-old Valencia goalkeeper has, according to football statistics website WhoScored, been the best goalkeeper in Europe's top five leagues so far in 2015-16.

His score of 7.3 is unrivalled and has stemmed from him capitalising on respective knee injuries to first-choice duo Diego Alves and Mathew Ryan and his first match - a 1-0 win at Sporting Gijon - saw him named man of the match on his first-team debut.

He has had to wait patiently for his chance having come through the reserve set-up, and was duly handed a new deal until 2018 but following the La Liga side's exit from the Champions League, Los Che are susceptible to offers and he is not guaranteed a starting place once Alves returns.

Heurelho Gomes (Watford)

Heurelho Gomes has kept more clean sheets than any other Premier League goalkeeper

The performances of strike duo Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney have caught the most attention at Vicarage Road this season, but Gomes has undoubtedly been one of the key factors behind Watford's stunning start to the season.

No Premier League goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets than the Brazilian's tally of eight and he beats the likes of Petr Cech, Joe Hart and Jack Butland (all have seven) into second place.

He was once considered a calamitous figure during his first spell in English football with Tottenham but he would provide the experience Martinez seeks in a goalkeeper in spades and would be a definite upgrade on Howard.

Marco Sportiello (Atalanta)

Linked with Bournemouth in recent days as the Cherries look to contend with an injury crisis which has robbed them of both Artur Boruc and Adam Federici.

But there's no doubt the Blues should be on the case at the figures mentioned, with a £6m fee being mooted for the 23-year-old, who has impressed for Serie A outfit Atalanta so far this season.

His form last year prompted Liverpool to take a look at him and he could be one of the better-priced younger options on the market.

Steve Mandanda (Marseille)

Steve Mandanda has been linked with a move to Everton in recent days

The Marseille veteran has been linked with both Liverpool and Everton in the last weekand has hinted that he could be set for a fresh challenge in 2016.

He has been at the Stade Velodrome since 2007 but is out of contract this summer and, given the Ligue 1 side's current struggles, it would be no surprise to see him move on to pastures new.

Similarly to Gomes, he provides top-level experience in abundance, as well as boasting international pedigree.

Asmir Begovic (Chelsea)

Asmir Begovic in action for Chelsea

Everton have already been linked with a summer bid for the Chelsea number two, who is said to be frustrated with life on the bench at Stamford Bridge.

A fee of around £8m has been touted for the Bosnian, who would replace the experience of Howard.

Begovic has played just once since Guus Hiddink took charge and it seems unlikely he’ll get any game time soon with Thibaut Courtois established in the team.

If Sunderland go down then we should look to buy Pickford. Maybe not quite the immediate replacement we would have in mind but would be a great prospect in another couple of years thereby allowing us to buy an older and more experienced keeper for the interim to vie with Robles.

Begovic and Butland for me. Begovic more realistic depending on his mentality. He good be happy on the bench at Chelsea, I think if Butland was available there would be competition from a few teams, Liverpool will no doubt be after a keeper.

One thing we have ignored is that we badly need a communicator, a Schmeichel-type who can marshall (not David) the defence. Hopefully one of those Germans fits the bill. We need leaders.
New Gk key attribute - organises the defence in a way Jags, Mori and Stones probably never will.
