What are peoples feelings towards the England team as in following them as a team rather than the individuals who play for them?

First off i wish to state that i don't follow them at all. I don't feel English or British for that matter and don't feel a need to follow them. Don't get me wrong, i hope they do well but then i hope Scotland, Wales and Ireland do well to.

I don't know if it's a scouse thing or what, i've noticed many other scousers share the same view.

Just wondered what every1 else thought. Sorry if i'm covering an old topic aswell, i am only a week old in terms of this board

Used to like them in 98 n stuff, but now they dont seem like a team, just players who are put on the same pitch who cant do anything interesting other than pass around hte defence. They play the most boring football ever now. The only time i watch them is when an Everton player is playing, an Everton target is playing or a final.

Dont care about England one bit. Only watch the games when one of our boys was in the squad.

Now, Am English, Not British and hate having a British passport, so to say I am not patriotic in nonsense. I love England as a country.

When i was in the forces, lads from all over the land would love it and go the ale house when England was playin. Me, I'd drag my sorry ass to the pub cos the amount of [Poor language removed] i got the next day was unbeliveable if missed the game. They just could not understand my passion for club football.

In my experence, Scousers tend not to care about the national team. When was the last time you seen an Everton/Liverpool flagat a national game? If you did i bet they did not travel from merseyside.

Give me the Carling cup or 4th over England winning the world cup anyday.

I am not an England fan. Maybe now, if Capello can get them playing as a team rather than a bunch of individuals. The last time I was really a fan of the England team, David Platt was playing in the middle and having a storming tourney.

I agree with Tezza- Im English not British. But I am also very patriotic, I love my country with all its faults and I love being English. Therefore I support the national side no matter what.

I do think people would soon change their opinions if we got to a world cup final eh?!

hoddle shouldnt have been forced out.

that opened my eyes to the spivs and cretins in charge of the national side.

they are a national embarrassment. so was paying sven for another 10 months after the circus show england put on in germany.

respect is earned, its not demanded or to be taken for granted.

i will allways follow england no matter who plays i did get into to fight at wembley with a kopite for calling gerrard a useless kopite t**t :lol::lol:

I do support England but it's extremely half hearted! I don't have a shirt or plan on going to any matches any time soon, but I do watch all the games on TV and was gutted when we didn't qualify for the Euros!!

My passion for Everton is about 100% greater though. When England lose (presuming it doesn't stop us qualifying for anything of course) I'm generally not all that arsed. Have a bit of a moan at Gerrard and Rooney then forget about it. When Everton lose I'm in a bad mood for the rest of the week! That sums it up really.

As for the English v British thing. I'd probably say English, although I'm not massively patriotic. I've got a best mate who's Scottish and he's sort of ultra proud of his roots, and really doesn't like England all that much! I don't really understand that to be honest, whilst I'd say I'm English that doesn't mean I hate the other countries in Britain...

I root for the Evertonian(s). However there are just too many unlikable overrated players on the squad for me to care about them. Its funny how everybody on Spain could field a squad of similar players, have them play different positions and play well. Instead England gets to see players like $tevie Me make 150K/week and throw a sh*% fit when he's asked to play 12ft to the right or play with Lampard and then diss the Croat team that just wiped the floor with them for the 2nd time.

Capello should have replaced these losers with a squad of players all under the age of 25-26. What's the worst they could do, not qualify?

Not sure why Britain doesn't field a British team for the Olympics. Every country in Britian would get experience on the world stage which could only help them. And there is enough quality spread out that you can make it so you have to pick at least 3 from each country. You could have had a squad with Young, Gabby, Bale, Sears, Huddlestone, Baines, Ramsey, Barnes, McGeady, Carson, Vaughn, Walcott, a couple Northern Irishmen (they have a young player on Man Utd dont they?) et.al.

Plus Faddy, Hutton, and Fletcher are all 24; can go as overage or maybe they didn't miss the cutoff.

Now that would be a team I would root for.

I don't support England in the slightest. I'll probably watch the games when they play so i can talk about it the next day but i couldn't give a crap if they win or lose.

I think it is a scouse thing, besides the cockneys and mancs dont want us supporting England. They bore me to tears anyway.

I used to be mad about England, as a kid I [Poor language removed] loved the national team & if I hadn't been skint before & during Euro 2004 I'd have probably gone over there to watch them. After that though I just completely went off them & now I only care how what happens on the pitch directly affects Everton (i.e. an Everton player getting injured or something happening that really helps/knocks his confidence or the same to players of our rivals) & on a personal level I really couldn't give a [Poor language removed] how they do.

I'd get more pleasure out of Everton winning a friendly against someone [Poor language removed] than I would from England winning a major tournament. I consider myself a scouser rather than an Englishman/Brit/European & an Evertonian rather than a football fan.

When we played the home internationals championship I used to go to them all .I loved beating Scotland at Hampden.I dont go to many now but after Everton England getting beat hurts more than anyone else.Disillisioned over the years though with poor tactics from over rated managers Taylor , Mclaren anyone? I also think the manager should be English:(

Thanks for the many messages in reply. I see myself as scouse over English or British. Maybe going a bit deep, but after living down south for a few years, i find southerners don't like scousers. I feel this aswell from many other parts of the country that we as scousers seem to be not liked by other English people. This has given myself and possibly others a sort of siege mentailty approach which makes me feel separtate from others in this country. We, more than any other type of people, ie Geordies, Cockneys, Mancs, seem to be attacked by people more and for me personally i feel i dnt wanna be apart of the same country as these people

Id defo be all for a Republic of Merseyside!!

I think this is the reason why England are [Poor language removed].

Lost touch with the fans.

Australia welcomes you with open arms.

Just dont start any punch ups.
